Lymphatic drainage is so much more than learning a routine. If you’re offering this treatment, you need to understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and when you shouldn’t.

1. Pressure matters
The lymphatic system is superficial, so deeper doesn’t automatically mean better. Traditional manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle, rhythmic movements designed to encourage lymph flow.

2. You need to know your contraindications
Not every client is suitable. Your consultation matters, and certain medical conditions, acute infections or unexplained swelling may mean treatment needs to be postponed or medical clearance sought.

3. Direction is everything
This isn’t a massage routine where we just move fluid around randomly. Understanding lymphatic pathways and drainage areas is essential to performing the treatment safely and effectively.

4. You need to understand WHY your client is swollen
Fluid retention can have lots of different causes. A good lymphatic therapist knows when something falls within their scope — and when it needs referring on.

5. Results aren’t just about what happens on the bed
Hydration, movement, breathing and appropriate aftercare can all support your client following their treatment.

This is exactly why my training goes beyond simply teaching you the movements. I want you to leave understanding the lymphatic system, anatomy & physiology, consultation, contraindications, treatment planning and practical techniques so you feel confident treating real clients.

Some of the women in these photos came to me right at the beginning of their journey. And that’s the thing — there’s no right place to be when you invest in yourself.
