𝐀 𝐰𝐢𝐧-𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧!

As part of my brother’s request to “optimise his aesthetic” I addressed his frown lines.
It’s common knowledge that frown lines are improved with Botulinum Toxin A treatment, but a lesser known fact is how treating the frown muscles may in some individuals reduce the frequency of headaches. Comment 𝐌𝐄 if you’ve noticed this.

There is a whole injection protocol for migraine sufferers that involves treating several muscles of the head and neck. Anecdotally, I’ve had many patients tell me that their headache frequency reduces with just treating the frown region.

If you suffer with frequent headaches always see your GP and have appropriate investigations to get to the root cause and rule out potentially serious causes. This post is not intended as medical advice to have Botulinum Toxin A treatment for headaches, but just an interesting win-win observation I wanted to share.

𝐉𝐀𝐂𝐊 & 𝐉𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐫𝐞-𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧…

In the underarm region we have two main types of sweat glands:

- 𝐄𝐂𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄 sweat glands - these are active from early life and produce watery sweat that helps us cool down.
Some individuals sweat excessively and if it’s troublesome, they may seek Botox (Botulinum Toxin A) treatment.

The signalling chemical (neurotransmitter) that activates eccrine glands into action is called 𝐀𝐜𝐞𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 - 𝐥𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤.
𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐦 𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐧 𝐀 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤 in his tracks; interfering with this communication pathway means the eccrine glands are not activated.

𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄 sweat glands - become active in puberty and produce thicker sweat that has an odour.
These glands do not utilise Jack, but instead use Jill to be activated.
𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐦 𝐓𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐧 𝐀 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐉𝐢𝐥𝐥; she will continue and these glands will produce their sweat with its odour.

Thankfully there are fewer apocrine glands than the eccrine glands, which is why treatment is so effective in reducing sweat patches, but you’ll still need your deodorant if you want to smell nice.

There are areas of the face that 𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 with age.

If you can already see the lost volume, whilst you’re at a heavier weight, you will definitely notice those regions more with weight loss.

Hence if you’ve already had targeted filler treatment to those specific zones of volume loss it can help you feel more confident along your weight loss journey.
The areas may require a little more filler as you lose weight, but what’s already there is providing benefit to be built upon.

Did your skin see a lot of sun over the summer?
This is now a great time of year to give your skin some TLC.

Skinpen microneedling sessions are a comfortable, in clinic treatment that stimulate your skins own repair mechanisms to lay down more collagen and elastin.

This improves the layer of your skin called the dermis, so skin texture is smoother, pores minimise, depth of scars and lines reduce and skin looks more even in pigment and brighter.

The treatment can be done as a stand alone treatment or combined with Platelet Rich Plasma, which requires taking a small sample of your blood, and further improves results by supplying your skin with even more of your own growth factors to trigger repair.

After treatment the skin is red for a day and it’s important to follow the aftercare for 24hours, which includes no makeup and products on the skin.

The skin starts the repair processes immediately and you will keep seeing the improvements for months to come.
I recommend x3 sessions at monthly intervals, however if you’ve already been looking after your skin you may choose just to do one session every 6-12months to maintain your skin quality.
