Sending love to ALL women on International Women's Day and thinking of my teachers over the last 30 years, who are some of the most inspirational women in my life - Amanda Rayment, who taught me to be a Holistic Birth Educator; Cabby Laffy, who taught me Fertility Awareness; Suzanne Yates, who taught me Pregnancy Massage; and Rosita Arvigo (pictured with her mentor, Don Elijio Panti), who taught me Maya Abdominal Massage and Maya Spiritual Healing. Endometriosis is a painful condition that arises when cells from the endometrial lining of the uterus grow in other places in the body - around the bladder, the fallopian tubes, ovaries, bowel and has been found even further afield. Orthodox medicine hasn't discovered the cause and offers little treatment for sufferers and it can often take many years to get a diagnosis.
The ancient Mayan's believe that the root cause of endometriosis (and other gynaecological conditions) is a displaced uterus that allows menstrual blood to back up out of the uterus via the fallopian tubes. Maya Abdominal Therapy can help encourage the uterus back in to the optimum position and help to relieve pain and other symptoms associated with endometriosis.

The cervix is amazing! And what a fantastic clear photo of one.... Maya Abdominal Therapy can help to optimise the position of the uterus allowing the cervix to move in all the ways described below unhindered......

Let's talk periods!
Period pain is very common, but isn't 'normal'.
A healthy period is pain free, lasts between 3 and 7 days, is red without large clots, starts with a good flow and gradually tapers off.
If you experience period pain, this can be a sign of inflammation in the uterus, dysregulation of the hormones, nutrient deficiencies, pathology such as pelvic inflammatory disorder or endometriosis.
All of these things can be caused by a uterus that isn't in the optimum position.
When the uterus is positioned optimally, it has the ability to stretch and move easily with the body's natural rhythms and motions.
A uterus that has moved out of the optimum position loses this ability and the blood, lymph and energy flow is compromised as is nerve impulse to the uterus and pelvic bowl, potentially causing pathologies to occur within the area.

Sacred Maya incense, copal (Protium copal - Burseraceae), has antianxiety effects in animal models - PubMed 29/04/2022

So good to see a scientific study showing the benefits of copal incense. I use the beautiful copal during my spiritual healing sessions. ❤️

Sacred Maya incense, copal (Protium copal - Burseraceae), has antianxiety effects in animal models - PubMed This is the first study to show that copal incense from Protium copal elicits anxiolytic-like effects in fear and social interaction models as evidenced by a reduced learned fear behavior and an increase in active social interaction. It's high α and β-amyrin content suggests behavioral effects may...

Really useful information about tongue tie in babies and how to recognise if this could be an issue for your baby. Tongue tie can be easily fixed by a trained professional.

I am currently reading a wonderful book called 'Braiding Sweetgrass' by Robin Wall Kimmerer. There is a fabulous chapter all about gratitude. In this quote she talks about gratitude as a revolutionary practice....
".... while expressing gratitude seems innocent enough, it is a revolutionary idea. In a consumer society, contentment is a radical proposition. Recognizing abundance rather than scarcity undermines an economy that thrives by creating unmet desires. Gratitude cultivates an ethic of fullness, but the economy needs emptiness." "Gratitude doesn't send you out shopping to find satisfaction; it comes as a gift rather than a commodity, subverting the foundation of the whole economy. That's good medicine for land and people alike."
For many, many years now I have held a practice of giving thanks for the experiences of my day and for all that it is in my life when I go to bed. Even on my darkest, lowest days, I have always found that there is something to be thankful for, many things in fact, that can counter any sink toward negativity. It is amazing how uplifting this practice is - to be reminded of all the good in life.

❤️ Happy International Women's Day ❤️
I have been working with women since 1998 and want to acknowledge and celebrate all the women who have come through my doors to work with me - they have been my biggest teachers, but I have also had the incredibly good fortune to have had some of the best teachers and mentors for my training over the years - Cabby Laffy, Amanda Rayment, Domonique Sakoilsky, Suzanne Yates and Rosita Arvigo to name a few. I have also been hugely influenced by the work of Ina May Gaskin, Jeanine Parvati Baker, Hope Edelman and Susan S W**d amongst others. I am forever grateful to all the other practitioners that I have met and worked with for their friendship, care, openness and sharing as well as my friends and family - you ALL rock!
Lastly, the image that I use for my profile picture is of Ixchel, main female deity in the Maya tradition - my main Goddess, protector, inspiration, always at my side.
Thank you to all the women in my life..... ❤️

Painful periods are extremely common, with many having to take time off work every month as a result. While common, experiencing pain with menstruation isn't 'normal'. Most pain associated with periods is due to the uterus not being in the optimal position and therefore having to cramp to get the blood and lining out.
Maya Abdominal Therapy gently encourages the uterus to come back into the optimum position, allowing blood to freely move out of the uterus and body each month without discomfort.

Leaving the cord intact is best for baby! ❤️

When I was first attending births in 1984, the obstetric model was to cut the umbilical cord immediately after birth and take the baby away for evaluation and a first bath. This was based on the belief that placental blood flow would increase birth complications for babies.

Even back then, we midwives knew to do it differently - we waited until the placenta stopped pulsating - 10 or more minutes -- before clamping and cutting the cord. Baby’s did great, placentas came out readily, and all was good - even if our methods were considered silly by doctors.

Times change, science has caught up. The midwives were right. We now know that immediate cord cutting, unless there’s a medical emergency that requires it, is not recommended. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now recommends a delay in umbilical cord clamping for at least 30–60 seconds, and the WHO recommends 2-3 minutes.

The benefits of waiting include:
❣️ Transfer to baby immunoglobulins and stem cells, essential for tissue and organ repair
❣️ Extra iron, which has been shown to prevent iron deficiency in the first year of life
❣️ Possibly reduced risk of hemorrhage and easier placental delivery for mom

While jaundice can develop from delayed cord cutting due to this influx of blood, this type of jaundice is not usually a medical problem. Baby will naturally clear this excess iron with pooping. Your midwife or pediatrician will keep an eye on baby over the first few days to make sure it’s clearing. However, the benefits of delayed cord cutting are more beneficial for baby than the risk of this jaundice.

Unfortunately, immediate cord clamping/cutting are still common practice in hospitals. You have to let your midwife or doctor know that you want to wait, with baby tummy to tummy on you, while you do. I recommend bringing this up with your care provider in advance to ensure that they are on board to do ‘delayed cord clamping and cutting’. Get specific with exactly how long you want baby to be connected to the placenta. Unsure how to advocate for yourself? Want guidance on pregnancy, birth, and newborn care? Both of my parents had dementia and the approach taken by the Contented Dementia Trust was invaluable in helping to keep both of them calm and in de-escalating situations. It's all about how you communicate.....

The SPECAL method recognises that for those with dementia, common sense doesn’t work. We need what we call SPECAL sense … and SPECAL sense has Three Golden Rules.

⭐️ Golden Rule No. 1 : Don’t ask questions.

Avoid asking any direct questions that requires the person with dementia to search their photograph album
for factual information that may not have been stored.

(See the post pinned to the top of this page, or look in our video section to watch the explanation of the SPECAL Photograph Album).

Their desperate search for missing facts will only increase their perception of their own disability, causing them unnecessary distress.

It is surprising how much information you can gather from a person with dementia without asking direct questions.
