Update ❤️

Sorry it’s been a while — I’ve been a little busy trying to stay alive! 😂

Tomorrow we’ll finally wrap up Phase 2 with one last needle to the spine 😬

I’d love to sugar-coat it, but this second phase has not been fun. Chemotherapy pretty much every day until my blood counts fell so low that treatment had to be stopped.

I was actually looking forward to a few days of not being poisoned… but apparently my body had other plans.

I managed to contract E. coli and pneumonia basically at the same time, which led to a week or so of fevers, temperatures above 40°C, ICU assessments and a whole lot of shaking 🫨

Thankfully, we got through that one too.

After tomorrow, we wait for my bloods to recover a little more before another bone marrow biopsy. The results of that will determine what happens next — whether we stay the course with the current treatment plan, or whether I need to go down the stem cell transplant route, which would be a much tougher road.

All being well, I might even get home for a week or so before starting Phase 3… although at this point, I’ve learned not to hold my breath 😂

But for now, I’m still here. Still fighting. Still alive. 💪🏻❤️

REMISSION! 🥳🥳🥳

So, after the first phase of chemo, we’ve finally got the first part of my bone marrow results back…

And I’m in remission! 🥳🥳🥳

Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean I’m cured — there’s still a way to go yet — but it’s the best bloody start we could have asked for!

I was due to go home today for 10 days, but I was given the option of striking while the iron’s hot and getting straight on with the next stage. So, Phase 2 of chemo starts tomorrow! 💪

To be fair, it’s not like I’ve got anything to go home for anyway. My beautiful, loving family abandoned me days ago for a week in the sun in Mallorca, while I’m laid here in hospital fighting for my life. 👍

Rude.

Once again, a massive thank you to everyone for all the messages, love and support — and, of course, to the incredible team looking after me.

Still a road ahead, but today we’re taking the fu***ng win. ❤️

Treatment Update ❤️

Well, that’s Phase 1 of the UKALL protocol complete.

Almost eight weeks in two different hospitals. How time flies when you’re being chemically poisoned 🤮😂

It’s been a month of chemotherapy, steroids, blood thinners, blood thickeners and the odd blood transfusion or two thrown in for good measure — all whilst completely losing any sense of what day or time it is.

Whilst I was deep into the steroid phase — which, by the way, makes you feel like you’re on some sort of illegal substance. Not that I would know what that feels like 😉 — a few beard hairs began to fall out.

Naturally, paranoia took over and out came the clean razor 🪒.

BIG MISTAKE.

Especially when you’ve got a steroid moon face. Turns out the beard was doing some fairly important structural work.

Yesterday, I had my hip successfully drilled into to collect a bone marrow biopsy, which is currently making its way down to London to reveal what progress we’ve made 🤞

I’m staying in hospital for the rest of next week, then hopefully I’ll be allowed home for a week — maybe even two! — before heading back in to start Phase 2.

Meanwhile, the salon seems to be running annoyingly well without my presence 😂 So a huge shout-out to the team for keeping the cogs turning and, more importantly, keeping your hair looking beautiful! Am I allowed to retire at 32 ??🤔😂

Once again, thank you so much for all the messages of encouragement and support from clients, friends and everyone following along. They genuinely keep me going. I’m replying as best I can, even if it sometimes takes me a little while.

And that pretty much wraps up week 3 of chemotherapy! Final treatment of the week tomorrow 💪🏻 Always the worst one, so I thought I’d post on a good day ☀️

My cockiness has definitely been tested over the last two weeks 😂 Quickly figuring out that you only really get a couple of good-feeling days out of the fortnight!

But today has been lovely. I got a visit from my wife and my eldest boy, Elijah, and we enjoyed a Costa picnic in one of the lovely hospital gardens in the sunshine ☀️ The little things ❤️

I’ll probably save my next update for the end of this first phase in another couple of weeks. I’ll be having my 3rd bone marrow biopsy to see if we’ve got this bu**er under some form of control, so we can move on to the intense phase of chemo! 😅💪🏻

One week of chemotherapy done. 💙

It’s mostly been good days, with a few tougher ones thrown in, but overall I’m feeling positive and taking each day as it comes.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Bradford Royal Infirmary for the incredible care and kindness you’ve shown me. Thank you as well to all of my amazing clients for your messages, support and understanding while I’m away, and to the fantastic team at the salon for keeping everything running so smoothly. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better group of people around me.

My Beard is still holding strong! Thankfully I didn’t need to worry about the hair 😅
