I’ve had gel nails consistently since I was 15/16 years old. Last Wednesday, I had to remove them before having an operation, and I haven’t had the energy to reapply them yet.

As you can see, my natural nails are healthy, strong, and completely free of product.

I wanted to share this because there’s a common misconception that gel nails ruin your natural nails. In reality, properly applied and properly removed gel should not damage the natural nail.

Damage is usually caused by factors such as:

🌸Over-filing the natural nail during preparation.
🌸Picking or peeling the gel off instead of removing it correctly.
🌸Incorrect removal techniques.

I’ve been applying and removing my own gel nails for the past 14 years. After almost a week without any product, my nails remain long, healthy, and strong.

It’s also important to remember that natural nails are supposed to have some flexibility.. they’re not meant to be as rigid as gel. Gel simply provides an added layer of strength and protection, helping to reduce everyday wear and tear. It doesn’t change the health of the nail underneath.✨

Healthy nails come down to correct preparation, proper removal, and ongoing care. When those three things are prioritised, your natural nails can remain healthy even after years of wearing gel💓

I’ve opened up the Sunday before to create some extra availability and appointments before I head in.
