This week and attended the Independent Gym Owners Conference to relaunch FTC Academy.
It was great to catch up with so many fantastic people in the industry and discuss all things fitness.
We also launched our Affiliate programme.

PAP (Post-Activation Potentiation) training is a strength and conditioning technique used to enhance athletic performance in various sports. The underlying principle of PAP is that a heavy muscle contraction or conditioning activity can temporarily increase the power output and contractile capabilities of the neuromuscular system.
The PAP training approach involves performing a heavy compound exercise or maximal effort task, followed by a short recovery period, and then immediately executing a sport-specific or explosive movement. The heavy pre-load is believed to heighten the excitability of the motor neurons, resulting in an acute improvement in the athlete's power production and rate of force development.
Some common examples of PAP training in sport performance include:
1. Plyometric exercises after heavy squats or deadlifts
2. Sprints or jumps after loaded sled pulls or weighted jumps
3. Medicine ball throws after bench press or overhead press
4. Ballistic upper body movements after heavy resistance training
The optimal implementation of PAP training requires careful consideration of factors such as:
- The type and intensity of the pre-load exercise
- The recovery duration between the pre-load and the explosive movement
- The athlete's training status, strength levels, and individual responsiveness to PAP
When programmed effectively, PAP training can lead to measurable improvements in athletic attributes like power, speed, and vertical jump performance. However, it is essential to monitor individual responses and make adjustments to the training protocol to avoid the risk of fatigue or overtraining.
Overall, PAP training represents a valuable tool in the arsenal of sport performance coaches, allowing them to leverage the neuromuscular system's acute potentiation capabilities to enhance the explosive qualities of their athletes.

FTC Academy is pleased to invite you to become a Level 4 Strength and Conditioning (S&C) coach.
As an S&C coach, you will be able to provide comprehensive training plans tailored to the unique needs of each athlete. You will have the knowledge and skills to assess movement patterns, analyse biometric data, and design periodized training cycles to optimize strength, power, speed, and injury resilience.
The curriculum covers advanced topics such as:
- Biomechanics and movement analysis
- Periodization and long-term athlete development
- Strength and power development techniques
- Plyometrics, speed, and agility training
- Injury prevention strategies
- Nutritional programming for athletic performance

Always improving. That’s the way we like it at FTC Gym Ipswich. Did you know that we are the greenest gym in Suffolk and one of the greenest in the UK!
Over the last 18months there has been a constant and steady drive to improve FTC for our members. Whether it be equipment, infrastructure or staff training.
Things take time and do not happen over night. Our journey to becoming as green as possible started some 2 years ago.
This required us to get multiple quotes, and then compare. While getting specialist advice on what we actually needed to cover our demand and future proof the project.
Once we settled on the provider and their installation team, funding was sort. Thankfully this all came together while applications to the national grid etc were done, along with the landlords consent.
Finally the 156 solar panels and EV charger were fitted nearly 2 months ago. This has truly benefitted the members, as we can now cool the club without breaking the bank. Also making FTC a much more comfortable place to train.
The L.E.D lighting and P.I.Rs save valuable energy and help to stop our waste. FTC continues to recycle as much as possible, so please ensure you use the right bins.
Don’t forget that we are part of the Jogon scheme recycling old gym footwear. The recycle Jogon bin is just outside the changing rooms.
We also have an EV Which is hard to miss around Ipswich, so forget to wave if you see us. This EV is charged at the gym for free, making sure we make the most of the solar array, and do our bit to save the planet.

Polite reminder
A limited number of lockers can be hired for £5 a month, please contact reception for more details.
There has been a significant increase in members placing a pad lock on a locker and keeping the locker for their own personal use without paying the monthly charge.
Any locker that has a pad lock on it, that is not registered as paying rent will be removed at 23:59 tonight.
Please ensure that you have removed your pad lock and personal items - FTC is not responsible for the storage of said items.
We do not have enough lockers for each member to have their personal locker, and lockers are for use when you are attending the gym.
