El Hair Extensions

Having started wearing extensions 26 years ago myself, at the time I was a teenager and no-one in Kilmarnock or very few in Ayrshire wore extensions or even knew what extensions were. I saved up for my first set when I was still at secondary school. Glasgow was the closest salon that fitted them.. they cost me £400 after saving up birthday and Xmas money, I sat in a salon from 9am till 5pm having them fitted 😒 and they fell out constantly so every couple of weeks I was having them put back in...not ideal.

So I thought to myself 🤔 I could do this, but I could do it a lot better and make it accessible to more people by keeping the price down whilst still maintaining a high quality of hair.

I found the nearest course (Manchester) a salon who solely concentrated on extensions and trained with them for a week (none of the ridiculous courses you get nowadays) I spent months ordering and testing hair, in my own hair before I would offer it to clients. So there my passion for extensions began.

I have been brought into Kilmarnock college, as It was known at the time, to be a guest speaker to the girls on the hair extension course. I have supplied the college with all their kits and hair for a number of years.

I branched into selling my own brand extensions, which took my several years, as I had to find the right hair at an affordable price. I sold to salons up and down the country, who at the time only used Indian hair, that and Chinese hair were all that was available 8n early 2000's unless you paid over £1500 for TRUE Russian hair (yes ladies the Russian hair you are sold now is NOT Russian hair lol, it costs thousands, is in short supply and comes with a certificate of authenticity) it only has to include 5% Russian to be sold as such.

Due to my vast knowledge of wearing hair I knew Indian was too heavy in a lot of cases for our fine Scottish hair so I set about finding an overseas supplier of European hair. My online shop was the first in UK to sell euro hair and in the next few years other suppliers followed.

There are 3 main points to GREAT extensions, my clients always say to me "Elaine, none knew I had extensions until I told them!" That's my goal when fitting and the satisfaction I get from happy clients, a lot of whom I've had for over 15 years, wearing my hair constantly.

So point 1 is = Colour match, the extensions MUST match your client's hair seamlessly, I can sometimes use 7 shades of blonde on 1 head to blend

Point 2 = placement, this has to hide the client's own hair cut whilst hiding the extensions under the natural hair...this has to flow perfectly between the client's hair and extensions so colour match in point 1 MUST be perfect.

Point 3 = cut and blend, this can be the difference between extensions looking like a wig and looking a continuation of the client's real hair, SO important when it comes to looking natural and not like extensions.

My work is my passion and I hope it shows in my client's finished result. I couldn't imagine doing anything else ❤️👑❤️

Wee half head 20 inch for my client tonight. My client didn't want her extensions too thick...having previously had a full head (not done by me) she found they were too heavy and damaged her hair so we opted for a half head and shaped them into face framing layers at the front ❤️
