🐾 Patient of the Day: Kez 🐾

Even clinic dogs need looking after!

Recently, Terry swapped his usual human patients for our resident Rottweiler, Kez, providing him with some canine osteopathy to help keep him moving comfortably and feeling his best.

As many of you know, Terry offers canine osteopathy, applying the same principles of movement, mobility and function that he uses with his human patients. While the patients may be a little hairier and less likely to follow instructions, the goal remains the same – helping them move as freely and comfortably as possible.

Kez was the perfect patient... mostly. There may have been a few demands for treats before treatment could begin! 🦴

Judging by the look on his face, we'd say he's quite happy with the service. Although we're not entirely convinced he wasn't just waiting for a biscuit afterwards! (Kez that is…) πŸ˜„

Feel free to share photos of your own four-legged family members below, we'd love to see them!

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Thinking of increasing your running distance? You might want to read this... πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

A large study following over 5,000 runners for 18 months found that the biggest predictor of overuse injuries wasn't how much you ran in a week, it was how much you increased the distance of a single run.

The researchers found that runners who increased the distance of a run by more than 10% compared to their longest run in the previous 30 days were significantly more likely to develop an overuse injury.

πŸ“ˆ Small increase (10-30%) = 64% higher injury risk.
πŸ“ˆ Moderate increase (30-100%) = 52% higher injury risk.
πŸ“ˆ Large increase (>100%) = 128% higher injury risk.

Interestingly, popular measures such as the Acute Workload Ratio (ACWR) and week-to-week mileage increases were not associated with a higher injury risk.

So what does this mean?

If your longest run over the past month has been 10km, jumping straight to 15km because you're "feeling good" may be more risky than gradually building up over several sessions.

βœ… Build distance progressively.
βœ… Respect recovery.
βœ… Focus on consistency rather than occasional big mileage jumps.
βœ… Remember that fitness can improve faster than your tissues adapt.

Whether you're training for your first 5k, a half marathon, or a marathon, smart progression is often the difference between reaching the start line and sitting on the sidelines.

Are you guilty of the occasional β€˜just one extra long run’? Let us know below! πŸ‘‡

🐾 Meet Finnley 🐾

At 14 years young, Finnley recently enjoyed some gentle osteopathy sessions with Terry at FYB πŸ’™

As our dogs get older, they can start to slow down, become stiffer, struggle getting up, or just seem a little less comfortable in themselves. Canine Osteopathy can help support mobility, ease tension, improve movement, and keep them feeling happier and more comfortable in their later years.

Finnley was an absolute superstar during his session, proving that age is just a number 🐢✨

If you’ve noticed your older dog becoming stiff, slowing down on walks, or struggling with everyday movement, osteopathy may be able to help.

Feel free to message us for more information about canine osteopathy sessions with Terry at FYB 🐾
