I nearly didn’t post this today, sometimes it’s hard to face reality I suppose - for years of my life I’ve lived in debilitating pain, pain that makes me physically sick, pain that causes me to lose friends through cancelling plans, pain that limits my abilities to do the things I love, pain that previously caused me to not hold down a job the list goes on - I cannot remember the last day I woke up and felt well … this isn’t me looking for sympathy or kindness ( I’m very lucky to have the most gorgeous network of family, friends, clients and other businesses who constantly support me ) , it’s me sharing my reality - we have become so blinded by the ‘perfect image’ of social media , so enjoy pictures of my painfully swollen tummy, my selfie I took after far too much anaesthetic and painkillers and my tummy patched up after surgery to try and remove the disease

For years I was ashamed of my body, angry at it ‘letting me down’ angry when it was swollen and didn’t shrink into clothes,or Instagram pictures. I was petrified of the ‘when are you due’ or ‘have you got something to tell me ‘ question when I was simply in agony as my body decided to fight itself, ashamed of needing help with basic tasks, angry that I couldn’t ’live how I used to’ and felt like I was ‘letting everyone down’ around me as I cancelled plans, ghosted text messages and hid from the world…

I’ve come a long way in accepting my body and its challenges, embracing its uniqueness and nourishing it with sleep, laughter and love, caring for it and slowing down rather than pushing through. Accepting I have a limit whilst still not being limited by it - it’s all about perspective - my pain makes me a more caring and considerate partner and friend, my pain makes me patient to those who need a little longer or a bit of comfort, my pain makes me strong and shows me I can do anything I want even in the face of adversity so perhaps my pain is actually my power ?
