These are permantly dilated capillaries. They have very thin walls which constantly dilate and constrict. As we age, tgese vessels lose thier elasticity and can become permanently dilated. These are numerous causes including aging, sun damage, hereditery., pregnancy, physical trauma, exposure to harsh weather, hormonal changes and skin fragility.

Let’s talk sun protection ☀️

You all know it’s one of my favourite skincare topics because I truly believe SPF should be worn every single day. However, many people still aren’t fully protected — even if they apply it daily — because it’s often used incorrectly.

The thicker, claggier sun creams are usually physical SPFs. These sit on top of the skin and act as a barrier to reflect the sun’skin rays. They are often better for sensitive skin types.

SPFs that absorb more easily are usually chemical sunscreens. These work by absorbing UV rays within the skin. Because they convert UV into heat, some people can experience prickly heat or heat rashes when using them.

A few important SPF reminders:

☀️ Apply your SPF 30 minutes before sun exposure
☀️ Reapply throughout the day, especially after sweating or swimming
☀️ SPF 50 is not “stronger” than SPF 25 — it simply gives longer protection before reapplication is needed
☀️ SPF in makeup is usually not enough on its own, as makeup can dilute the protection. Always apply a dedicated SPF underneath your makeup
☀️ Make sure your SPF is broad/full spectrum so you are protected from both UVA and UVB rays. You can still tan while helping protect your skin from premature ageing, burning, and skin cancer
☀️ Try to choose fragrance-free SPF where possible. Fragrance is a flamable ingredient that can also irritate the skin, especially in the heat and sun.
