⚠️ Something many clients don’t know about lash retention…
During lash appointments, I sometimes notice natural lashes that are already at the very end of their life cycle. Before applying an extension, I gently check the stability of the natural lash, and some of them detach instantly with almost no resistance — a clear sign that the natural shedding process had already started 🍂
The photo shows natural lashes that shed during the appointment, before the client even left the salon.
A lot of clients assume that when an extension falls out together with a natural lash at home, it means:
“my lashes are falling out” or “the extensions didn’t last.”
But in many cases, it’s simply part of the natural lash growth cycle.
Every natural lash goes through:
✨ growth phase
✨ transition phase
✨ shedding phase
Once a lash reaches the final stage, it can detach very easily, even with minimal movement.
This post is purely educational — to show that not every shed extension is caused by poor retention or incorrect application. Sometimes the natural lash was already ready to shed before the extension was even applied 🤍 # hull lashes viralreels explorepage
As a lash artist and trainer, I can honestly tell almost immediately when lash extensions haven’t been cleaned properly. And no, I don’t need a microscope for that. When you work this close to someone’s eyes every day… you can see it with the naked eye. 👀
The funny part is that I almost always hear the same answer:
“Yes, of course I wash them! Even with lash shampoo.” 🤍
Meanwhile, the lash line is telling a completely different story.
Build-up around the natural lashes, oil, flakes, dirty bases and extensions stuck together… things that simply don’t happen when lashes are actually cleaned properly and consistently.
And the issue isn’t just about retention or “lashes not lasting long enough.”
Poor lash hygiene can lead to:
— bad retention
— stickies
— irritation and discomfort
— and over time, even damage to the natural lashes.
As lash techs, we can apply lashes perfectly, use the best products and give proper aftercare advice… but home care matters just as much.
Because at the end of the day, the lash line never lies. 😅
