💜 Domestic Abuse Awareness Month 💜

A lot of people who know me now don’t know my story.

I’m not sharing this for pity or attention. I’m sharing it because I’ve been there and I understand.

Look at this picture of me. Would you believe I was living through domestic abuse when it was taken?

I look happy don’t I? I wasn’t.

I was thin. Withdrawn. Not myself and doing crazy things that I look back on now and barely recognise as me.

Domestic abuse doesn’t always look how you think it does. People still go to work. Put their makeup on. Smile for pictures and laugh with friends while behind closed doors their life is completely different.

For me it wasn’t just physical. It was isolation. Control. Gaslighting. Manipulation and being slowly stripped of who I was. It took me at least 10 years to truly move forward from it.

There’s a sign hanging in my salon that says:

“What is said in the salon stays in the salon.” ❤️

And I mean it.

If you’re sitting in my chair and need to talk then talk. If you need to cry then cry. There will be no judgement.

And I’m actually a little bit sad about this one because it means we have to let her go! 😂

Michaela has been with us for nearly two years now, starting with us at Level 4 and working her way right through to Level 7.

That’s what I absolutely love about our academy. We’re not a huge training provider where you come in, do your course and disappear.

We’re small. And we want to stay that way.

We train in small groups, we get to actually know our students, friendships are made, everyone helps each other, skills are shared and there’s always someone there when you’re having one of those “I literally cannot do this” moments. 😂

And then suddenly you’re sat there like Michaela, having gone from Level 4 ➡️ Level 5 ➡️ LEVEL 7! 🎓

Aspinall Aesthetics Education has been delivering regulated qualifications since 2021, and we were one of the first academies in Bristol to really push regulated aesthetics education.

For us, this has never been about churning out one-day CPD courses and sending people off with a certificate.
