For years I said yes to every wedding. Every weekend gone. Holidays worked instead of spent with my kids. I wanted to earn more, but the only lever I had was more weddings — and I was already stretched thin.

Travel wasn’t something I went looking for. A couple of friends and family were already using it to book their own trips, and when I finally asked how it worked, it just made sense — I talk to every single bridal client about their honeymoon or their next holiday anyway. It was already built into the job.

Two years on: fewer weddings, way more weekends with my family, spontaneous trips I never used to be able to take, less stress, and more income than I had before.

I’m not saying stop doing makeup, hair, or weddings — I love this industry. I’m saying there’s a way to do a bit less of the thing that’s draining you and build something alongside it that actually gives you your time back.

If you’re in beauty, hair, or weddings and holidays already come up constantly with your clients — you’re closer to this than you think. What's stopping you from giving it a try? Earn more, travel more, and be able to physically work a bit less.

Life is not a rehearsal. We spend so much of our lives waiting.

Waiting until the kids are older.
Waiting until work calms down.
Waiting until Monday.
Waiting until next year.

But somewhere along the way, “later” quietly becomes “not yet”… and before you know it, years have passed.

I’m not saying quit your job, book a round-the-world trip or throw caution to the wind.

I’m saying stop waiting for permission to live your life. Find a way to make it work.

Take the holiday.
Make the memories.
Have the lunch.
Build the business.
Say yes to the invitation.

Because the perfect time rarely arrives.
Life is not a rehearsal.

Managing self employed life, school holidays, perimenopause, high energy boys, holidays, and work was a challenge at times but it was a good month.
