"My name is Mandy and I've worked at the Linton Lane Centre for 30 years.

Because I knew you were coming, you've made me reflect on my life which I don't often do. I suppose my story starts at the Toll Centre in Burntisland, I lived there at the time and was a volunteer there. 39 years later, I'm still the treasurer of the playgroup at the centre. My son started there at 3 but couldn't settle so me being a soft mum, I would stay with him and slowly became involved. My daughter started too and I can't believe that I'm still there. I spent 20 years on the committee because I love Burntisland and I've still got so many friends who live there.

I was bullied at school, and I think that's what has made me want to fight for the underdog for all these years, it's why I help acquire funding for places like here and when I was on the committee at the Toll Centre. I think the effect of that bullying has made me so good at my job. Linton Lane is in a community that often gets a bad reputation, much of it from the past. For me, everybody has a story and I'll never judge them from ending up on a path that they're on, for any position they're in. I will always try to help, and that's been my biggest achievement in my 30 years here.

Linton Lane supports the community, we've got amazing staff, wonderful, committed volunteers. A board that trusts you and board members that believe in what we're doing. This building has been here 60 years, there was an amazing caretaker named Dennis Crawford, who literally rebuilt it from inside out. We're struggling for funding, struggling for volunteers, for groups and staff. I'm trying to find funds, the voluntary sector is struggling to survive because funding is hard to come by. People are struggling to find time to volunteer, cost of living means people take on other jobs, sometimes they just want to spend time with their family. I've been lucky because I lived close by, my kids were 15 and 13 when I started here so they've had to put up with it, and it became a big part of our lives.

I've also been through quite a lot of sadness, that was something that hit me today before you arrived. Linton Lanes been here for me, here when I needed it. It's kept me going.

Mandy begins to get upset

"I'm not anything, I'm just Mandy and I'm just very lucky to have been able to do this. I've met a lot of good people, I've made a lot of good friends and I just love it here"
