Our first-year students have been busy learning and practising their cutting and colouring skills and are now welcoming clients into the salon.

All colours include a cut if needed and a finish.

All services are carried out by students and closely supervised by experienced professionals.
Skin test must be carried out 48 hours prior to appointment if you have not had one with us in the last 6 months.
Clients MUST be 16 or over to have your hair coloured at the student salon.

💬 Please note: These are students who are still learning. We kindly ask that you allow plenty of time for your appointment, do not rush them, and ensure you are available for the full service so they can work comfortably and confidently.

Services are offered at reduced training prices.

Interested in a career in hairdressing? The Fast Track to Hairdressing course may be the perfect place to start.

Orkney Islands Council’s employability team and UHI Orkney have teamed up to deliver a five-week course which helps you to develop the entry-level hairdressing skills needed by employers.

The course:

🟣Is free for eligible individuals (see below for eligibility criteria).
🟣Timed to fit in with the school day.
🟣Includes practical sessions at UHI Orkney.
🟣Includes help setting up work experience and writing a CV.

The course is targeted towards parents who have lower household incomes. To be eligible to participate in this course you must be within one of the following family groups:

🟡Young parent (aged under 25 years);
🟡A parent with more than three children;
🟡A parent with a child aged under one;
🟡A minority ethnic parent or,
🟡Be parents who have a disability or a child with a disability.

Individuals who are unemployed are also eligible to apply.

🕙The programme will run from Tuesday 24 February to Friday 27 March 2026, with classes taking place on Tuesdays, 10am-2.30pm and Fridays, 10am-2pm.
