Wanting to help someone and knowing how to help them professionally are two very different things.
Counselling training is not simply about becoming a good listener. Students also need to understand ethics, confidentiality, boundaries, supervision and the responsibilities that come with working therapeutically with another person.
These foundations form an important part of Ayurva Academy’s Level 4 training and help prepare students for safe professional practice.

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I’d like to do something that helps people”?
Ayurva Academy’s Integrative Counselling Theory and Practice qualification is designed for people working towards a career in counselling, whether that eventually means working within a counselling service or developing an independent practice once qualified.
A career change does not always begin with a dramatic leap. Sometimes it begins by exploring what the next stage of training could look like.

Counselling is about meeting the person in front of you, not assuming their experience looks like your own.
As part of the Level 4 course, students explore how culture, heritage and wider social issues can influence the counselling relationship. The course also looks at power dynamics and the importance of practising ethically within a diverse society.
It is another part of learning to become a thoughtful, reflective practitioner rather than simply learning what to say in a counselling room.

Who does a counsellor turn to when they need to reflect on their own practice?
Supervision is an important part of professional counselling. During the Level 4 course, students learn about its role alongside confidentiality, professional responsibilities and safe practice, helping them understand that becoming a counsellor also means knowing when and how to seek support.
Want to know more about what the course covers? Send us a message and one of the team will happily have a chat.

A strong counselling relationship is not built on good intentions alone.
Ayurva Academy’s Level 4 course explores the foundations of safe and ethical practice, including confidentiality, professional boundaries, supervision, contracting with clients and the importance of building trust.
These are the skills that help turn theory into responsible, client-centred practice.
The next course starts this month. To find out more, download the prospectus from our website or contact the team for a friendly chat.

What does it mean to train as an integrative counsellor?
People bring different personalities, experiences, relationships and challenges into the counselling room. An approach that feels helpful for one client may not be the right fit for another.
During Ayurva Academy’s Integrative Counselling Theory and Practice Level 4 course, students explore and compare different counselling theories, including person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural approaches.
The aim is not to collect a box of disconnected techniques. It is to develop the knowledge and judgement needed to understand different ways of working, to connect theory with practice, and to become a more adaptable practitioner.
Our next Level 4 course starts this September and is delivered through a combination of face-to-face learning in Blackpool and online modules.
To learn more, download the prospectus from our website or email us. One of the team will happily have a chat with you.

You can read about listening, trust and therapeutic relationships. But how do those skills develop when another person is sitting in front of you?
Practical experience is an important part of becoming a counsellor. Ayurva Academy’s Integrative Counselling Theory and Practice qualification includes a supervised placement, during which students complete at least 100 hours of formally contracted counselling with a minimum of five different clients.
The placement takes place within an agency setting, where students work within an established service framework and receive clinical supervision.
It is an opportunity to begin connecting classroom learning with real conversations, real responsibilities and the professional standards expected of a practising counsellor.
The next course starts this September. To ask a question about the course or placement requirements, email the academy and one of the team will happily talk everything through with you.

How can we sit with someone else’s story without understanding what our own story may bring into the room?
Training to become a counsellor involves more than studying theories or practising communication techniques. It also requires reflection, self-awareness and a willingness to examine your own development.
The Level 4 course encourages students to consider how counselling theory and practice affect their relationships, responses and understanding of themselves. Reflective practice then helps students connect that personal learning with the way they work professionally.
This does not mean counsellors must have everything neatly figured out. It means developing the awareness to recognise what belongs to the client, what may belong to the counsellor and how to work thoughtfully and ethically with both.
For more information about beginning your Level 4 journey this September, download the prospectus or contact the Ayurva Academy team for an informal conversation.
