Another day, another qualification... but today hits different.
I officially qualified in Oncology Massage today. ππβ₯οΈ
This isn't just another certificate to hang on the wall. This one is deeply, profoundly personal and it's been many years in the making. I walked into the treatment room this morning and I introduced myself to the other students. We had to talk about why we wanted to do this qualification. I'm not going to lie, I burst into tears unexpectedly. I've been carrying a lot and not even realising it.
Cancer has touched almost every corner of my life. I lost my beautiful Nana to leukaemia. My dad developed cancer after the COVID jab, and his life was tragically cut short by a medical mistake in surgery 4 years ago. My mum and all my aunts have all battled breast cancer. Right now, one of my cousins and my cousin's wife are both courageously recovering from breast cancer and both are younger than me.
Last year, I had my own scare. I had a large 9cm tumour removed. It turned out to be benign, but the shock gave me a wake-up call I'll never forget. It made me reassess everything and solidified exactly where I needed to put my energy.
But the moment that truly set me on this path happened 12 years ago.
I had qualified in massage therapy and set up my little tent at Deershed Festival with . A beautiful, radiant lady with terminal cancer came up to me. She told me she had just two weeks to live and asked if I could give her one last massage. I felt a tug of war in my mind, as we were always strictly taught never to massage cancer patients. But she had two weeks. I did it anyway. I gave her that massage. I never forgot her face, her gratitude, or that feeling of helplessness mixed with profound connection.
Now, 12 years later, I am fully qualified, fully insured, and truly confident to work safely, knowledgeably, and compassionately with cancer sufferers. I can finally honour that lady, my family, and my own journey by offering the care that is so desperately needed.
Again I want to thank my amazing tutor Kerry from Cambridgeshire Wellness Clinic. You are a godsend. Looking forward to doing more training with you.

Stress and screen time go hand in hand. π©
Just spent the day at Twenty six in Leeds reminding staff that self-care doesn't have to mean a spa dayβit can happen right in the boardroom! Seated acupressure tackles tension in the neck, back, and shoulders without staff even needing to get undressed.

Yesterday was truly special. A huge thank you to Ellie for organising such a meaningful Leeds Wellbeing Week, and for bringing so many wonderful people together. π
And my deepest thanks to Sarah for inviting me to exhibit and offer treatments on the closing day, held at the beautiful The Attic, Leeds. Sarah, you put on a brilliant, warm, and beautifully held day. I'm so grateful!
It was an honour to be among so many brilliant practitioners, yoga teachers, therapists, meditation guides, and conscious creators... all sharing space with open hearts. I met so many warm, curious people, and spending the day giving therapies reminded me why I love this work.
Grateful for every connection. Until next time π

A 12-mile walk on the first truly beautiful day of spring. Yes, there were crowdsβbut my focus was on the reset.
As a therapist, time in nature isn't a luxury. It's how I regulate after holding space for so many different energies. Solitude outdoors helps me decompress, recentre, and show up more fully for the people I work with.
Highly recommendedβfor practitioners and for anyone who gives a lot of themselves. βοΈ
