Most aftercare is about the next 48 hours. With a collagen biostimulator, the aftercare that decides your result runs for months.

The first 48 hours are standard and straightforward.

No saunas, steam rooms, hot baths or sunbeds. No strenuous exercise. No alcohol. Nothing applied over the injection points for the first 24 hours. Be gentle with the area and otherwise leave it alone.

You will get written aftercare from us on the day. If anything in it differs from what you read online, including this post, follow ours.

Then the part almost nobody thinks of as aftercare.

Finish the course. Do not judge the result at week two, because at week two you are looking at hydration and settling rather than collagen. Come to your review appointment even if you are convinced nothing has happened, because that is the appointment where we find out whether it has and decide what to do next.

And contact us about anything that concerns you at any point, not only in the first week. This treatment has a long tail, and so does our aftercare. If you feel a firm lump at any stage, ring us rather than massaging it or waiting.

The risks with a collagen biostimulator are not the ones patients ask about, and they do not turn up in the first week.

The ordinary things happen first. Bruising, swelling and tenderness at the injection points. Those settle within a few days and they are not the ones we watch for.

The recognised risk with this class of product is a nodule. A small firm lump that can appear weeks, sometimes months, after treatment, long after you have stopped thinking about the appointment. Published reviews describe it as a significant complication of poly-L-lactic acid treatment with no single agreed management approach, and any clinic selling this product without mentioning it is not being straight with you.

What reduces the risk is not luck. It is how the product is prepared and reconstituted, how deep it is placed, how much is used, and whether you were the right patient for it in the first place.

If you feel a lump at any point after treatment, ring the clinic. Do not massage it, do not wait to see if it settles, and do not look it up. That applies whether we treated you or someone else did.

We would rather see you and find it is nothing.

Julaine results are not instant, and if you judge it in the first fortnight you are judging water rather than collagen.

Here is the honest order it happens in.

First, some swelling where the product went in. That is expected and it settles.

Then a hydration effect and a subtle improvement in skin quality. That part is real, and it genuinely feels like the treatment has worked. It is not the collagen.

The collagen effect comes weeks later, and keeps building for months after that. That is the part you actually paid for, and it is the part almost nobody is patient enough to wait for. It is also why the patient who feels good at week two and decides one session was enough tends to be the patient who is disappointed at month four.

Julaine is not a one-off treatment. Most patients need a course, usually two to four sessions, depending on your age and how much skin laxity we are working with. We will tell you which at the consultation.

If what you want is a visible change this month, say so. There are treatments that do that, and we would rather point you at one than take your money for this.

Julaine treatment in Leeds, and why we will not book you in without a consultation first.

That is not a sales formality. This treatment is not right for everybody, and when it is not right we say so, and you go home without booking it.

Here is what we are actually assessing.

What you are hoping for, in your words rather than ours. Your medical history. The health and condition of your skin. And what is genuinely bothering you, which is very often not what you walked in saying.

Then what you have had done before. Filler especially. Filler frequently lasts a good deal longer than people expect, so we need to know what is in there, where it went and when, before anyone adds anything on top of it. That matters more than most patients realise, and it is the thing most often left out of a rushed assessment.

With Julaine in particular, choosing the right patient is most of the treatment. Get that part wrong and no amount of good technique fixes it.

Julaine vs Sculptra, answered properly, including the part most clinics leave out.

Both are poly-L-lactic acid. Same active ingredient, same job, which is prompting your own skin to build collagen over months rather than adding volume on the day.

The difference is the particle. Sculptra's particles are less uniform in size and can aggregate. Julaine uses smaller, more uniform microspheres.

The manufacturer's position is that a more uniform particle produces a more even collagen response. That is a product design difference and a stated rationale. It is not a head-to-head clinical trial, because no published head-to-head trial exists between these two products, and we are not going to tell you otherwise.

The difference you will actually notice is the aftercare. Sculptra requires you to massage the treated area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days. Julaine has no massage protocol.

Beyond that they are more similar than different. Both are a course of two to three sessions, four to six weeks apart. Both take months to show anything.

Which one suits you depends on your skin, your priorities and your budget, and that is a consultation conversation rather than a marketing one.

Julaine biostimulator and Sunekos, used together on one patient, and why we did not choose between them.

Charles had both in the same appointment. They work at different depths and do different jobs.
Sunekos works in the upper layers of the skin. Hydration, skin quality, and some collagen stimulation near the surface.
Julaine is a poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator. It works deeper, in tissue layers Sunekos does not reach, and it stimulates the structural collagen underneath.

So one is working on the quality of the skin and the other on the structure beneath it. Used together they cover ground neither covers alone.

Neither does anything on the day. Both work by prompting your own collagen to rebuild, and that takes months rather than minutes. If you want to see a change this week, this is the wrong pair of treatments and we will tell you so.

Whether you need one, the other, or both, is a consultation question. With Julaine in particular, choosing the right patient is most of the treatment.

What happens at your first polynucleotide treatment? Honestly, not very much yet.

This is session one of three, and that is the part worth understanding before you book anything.

Polynucleotides are not filler. Nothing is added to the face and nothing is being shaped. They are purified DNA fragments, salmon derived, and they work by prompting your own fibroblasts to produce collagen.

They also have a calming effect on the skin, which is a large part of why they suit skin that reads as irritated, uneven in texture or generally tired, rather than skin that has lost volume.

So what changes is skin quality. Texture, tone, the way skin behaves. Not shape.

It builds across a course, typically three sessions. After session one there is very little to see, and any clinic showing you a dramatic first session result is showing you something else.

Does Sunekos hurt? Here is the honest answer, plus what recovery actually looks like.

This is the question we get asked more than any other, and it usually gets a vague answer. So, properly:

Sunekos is done using a very fine cannula rather than a traditional needle. Numbing cream goes on first and is left for around 20 minutes before treatment starts.

Most patients describe the sensation as a mild pressure rather than a sharp pain. The whole appointment takes roughly 15 minutes from start to finish.

Afterwards, expect some redness. For most people it has settled by the next morning. The area around the eyes is thinner skin and can behave slightly differently, which is something we talk through at consultation rather than leave you to discover.

Sunekos is usually given as two sessions, two weeks apart.

If pain is the thing holding you back, say so at consultation. It is a normal thing to raise and there are ways to make it easier.
