Why Does Our Heart Start Racing? ❤️

In the last part, we looked at what stress actually is.

Today, let's take a closer look at what happens inside our body when we feel stressed.

And you might be surprised by how quickly our body can react.

Imagine you're walking down the street and suddenly hear a loud bang behind you.

You might not even have time to think.

Your body is already reacting.

Your brain interprets the situation as a possible threat and sends a signal to your body:

“Something is happening. Get ready!”

And within moments, several things start to change.

❤️ Your heart beats faster, sending more blood to the parts of your body that may need it — especially your muscles.

🌬️ You start breathing faster, because your body needs more oxygen.

💦 You may start sweating, as your body prepares for physical action and helps regulate its temperature.

👀 Your attention becomes sharper, focusing on what is happening around you.

And behind the scenes, stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are released.

Adrenaline is the fast one.

It kicks in quickly and prepares your body for immediate action.

Cortisol works a little differently and helps your body maintain energy and deal with the ongoing demands of stress.

The whole system has a simple goal:

FIGHT OR FLIGHT.
