Did you know your environment can play a huge part for your birthing journey?

Naturally as mammas, when we labour, our instincts take over and we tend to birth better when we are in a safe, protected and familiar environment. This is why it is so important to understand how to make your environment set up in any place- because it can make a huge difference.

I always tell my families to consider their 5 senses when considering what they need for a positive birth environment, so here are my top tips for you…

👀SIGHT
How is your labour and birthing environment visually? Using dim lighting with affirmations and positive imagery can help to aid the feeling of safety and familiarity. Top tip- wear an eye mask when entering an unfamiliar environment (obviously using your partner to guide you) to reduce the bright lights.

👃SCENT
Have you considered what scents and smells can help? Aromatherapy and essential oils can work wonders! I would highly recommend for all your essential oil needs. Also consider the smell of your partner- you are naturally attracted to it and so it will help you feel protected. Consider wearing something of theirs.

👂SOUNDS
Lots of noise is a definite no! Consider what playlist you can have to help build those endorphins but also that help calm and relax you. Top tip- take in earphones to drown out any unnecessary noise so you can focus on you.

👋🏽TOUCH
Do you have an anchor or anything that you like the feel of that gives you comfort? Make sure to have that with you to help with the oxytocin levels!

👅TASTE
Snacking and drinking is so important in labour to keep those energy levels up so make sure you are prepared with this in any environment.
