HYDRA FACIAL: TAILORED TO YOUR SKIN
A hydra facial shouldn’t be delivered as exactly the same routine for everybody.
The treatment combines carefully selected cleansing, surface exfoliation, suction and topical solutions, but the products, intensity and number of passes should reflect your skin’s condition and tolerance.
Your consultation includes:
* Assessing how your skin looks and feels today
* Discussing sensitivity, irritation or active concerns
* Reviewing current skincare and prescription products
* Considering recent facial treatments or injectables
* Selecting appropriate treatment steps
* Explaining possible temporary redness or sensitivity
* Planning suitable preparation and aftercare
* Setting realistic expectations
Stronger suction and more exfoliation are not automatically better. If the skin is already irritated, inflamed or compromised, adapting or postponing treatment may be the most appropriate decision.
Published hydradermabrasion research has reported changes in the skin’s superficial layers, but studies remain limited; one recent imaging study involved only eight volunteers. It therefore shouldn’t be promoted as a guaranteed cure, permanent pore treatment or dramatic transformation.
Message me to arrange a free, no-pressure consultation or book a hydra facial following a suitability assessment. Individual experiences and results vary.

COMBINING TREATMENTS? TIMING MATTERS
More treatments in one appointment do not automatically create a better treatment plan.
HIFU, radiofrequency and EMS use different forms of energy and act in different ways. Injectable skin treatments introduce another set of considerations. Before combining or closely sequencing procedures, a responsible assessment should consider:
* The exact devices and products involved
* The proposed treatment areas and tissue depths
* Medical history and individual suitability
* Recent injectable or energy-based treatments
* The order in which treatments would be performed
* Expected inflammation, tenderness or downtime
* Manufacturer instructions and contraindications
* Whether spacing appointments would be more appropriate
Research has explored selected combinations of energy-based devices and injectable treatments, but products, devices and protocols vary. Evidence supporting one combination cannot automatically be applied to every HIFU, RF or EMS machine, or every injectable product.
If direct evidence or manufacturer guidance is unclear, a cautious, staged plan makes it easier to assess the skin’s response and identify the cause of any unwanted reaction.
Always tell your practitioner about every recent cosmetic treatment, even if it was carried out elsewhere.

PERMANENT EYELINER: DESIGN FIRST
Permanent eyeliner should complement your eyes, not simply copy somebody else’s style.
Micropigmentation, also known as permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, can be used to add colour and definition around the eyelids and lash line.
Your private consultation provides time to consider:
* Your natural eye shape and eyelid skin
* Subtle lash-line definition or a more visible eyeliner effect
* Your usual makeup and personal style
* Colour, thickness and placement
* Medical history, allergies and suitability
* Existing permanent makeup
* The treatment and expected healing stages
* Aftercare, maintenance and realistic healed results
Immediately after treatment, the colour commonly appears darker and more defined than the intended healed result. It softens as the area settles, although healing and pigment retention vary between individuals.
I’ve worked in permanent makeup since 2007, creating individually planned results rather than following a fixed template.
Message me to arrange a free, confidential consultation. Treatment is never required on the day.

PATCH TESTING: A SENSIBLE START
“Gentle”, “natural” and “suitable for sensitive skin” don’t guarantee that a product will suit every person.
Testing an unfamiliar product on a small area before applying it more widely may help identify an obvious reaction. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests applying it to a small test area twice daily for seven to ten days, following the normal product directions.
A few points to remember:
* Test one unfamiliar product at a time
* Follow the manufacturer’s directions
* Don’t test on broken, inflamed or recently treated skin
* Stop if persistent redness, itching, burning or swelling develops
* Remember that a home product test cannot guarantee that a later reaction won’t occur
* Formal allergy patch testing performed by a dermatologist is different
Cosmetics, fragrances and preservatives can trigger contact dermatitis in some people. Seek appropriate healthcare advice if a reaction is severe, persistent or worsening.
If you’re unsure how to introduce a product or your routine has become overwhelming, message me for a free, no-pressure skin consultation.

DERMAPLANING: TIMING MATTERS
Professional dermaplaning uses a specialised blade to remove superficial skin build-up and fine vellus hair. Suitable skin may feel smoother afterwards, but it isn’t a treatment to squeeze in without considering timing and suitability.
Your consultation includes:
* Assessing your skin’s current condition
* Checking for active irritation, inflammation or infection
* Discussing recent treatments and current skincare
* Considering any important forthcoming events
* Explaining possible temporary redness or sensitivity
* Planning appropriate preparation and aftercare
* Setting realistic expectations
Trying an unfamiliar treatment immediately before a wedding, holiday or photographed event can introduce unnecessary uncertainty. Allowing appropriate time means your skin’s response can be assessed without pressure.
Message me to arrange a free consultation or book dermaplaning following a suitability assessment. Individual experiences and results vary.

YOUR SKIN DOESN’T NEED A DETOX
“Detox” is a persuasive marketing word, but it doesn’t tell you what a skincare product can realistically achieve.
Your body already has systems that continuously process and remove waste. A cleanser can remove makeup, surface oil and everyday dirt, but a cosmetic product shouldn’t be assumed to draw unspecified “toxins” from your body.
The British Dietetic Association similarly describes detox diets as a marketing myth rather than a nutritional necessity. The same healthy scepticism is useful when assessing skincare claims.
For most everyday routines, the useful foundations remain reassuringly simple:
* Cleanse gently
* Moisturise according to your skin’s needs
* Introduce unfamiliar active ingredients gradually
* Avoid repeatedly scrubbing or over-exfoliating
* Use suitable daytime sun protection
* Seek appropriate advice for persistent or worsening skin symptoms
Your skin doesn’t need to feel tight, stripped or uncomfortable to be properly cleansed.
If your routine has become confusing, message me for a free, no-pressure skin consultation.

SKIN BOOSTERS: QUALITY, NOT VOLUME
Skin boosters are injectable products intended primarily to support the appearance of skin quality rather than noticeably reshape facial features or create significant volume.
The term covers different products, formulations and treatment protocols, so they should not all be treated as interchangeable.
Your consultation includes:
* What you would realistically like to improve
* Your skin’s current condition
* Medical history and medication
* Previous injectables or skin treatments
* The proposed product and treatment areas
* Expected swelling, bruising and recovery
* Potential complications and aftercare
* Whether treatment, or no treatment, is appropriate
A 2025 meta-analysis of local hyaluronic-acid injections reported improvements in hydration and radiance, but did not find significant changes in every measurement, including elasticity and pigmentation. The authors concluded that further research is still required.
Message me to arrange a free, no-pressure consultation and discuss whether a skin-booster treatment may be appropriate for your skin. Individual suitability, response and results vary.

FACE YOGA: EVIDENCE IS STILL LIMITED
Face yoga is widely promoted online as a natural way to lift the face, sharpen the jawline and reduce wrinkles, but the strength of the evidence matters.
Some small studies have reported changes in particular areas. However, a 2025 systematic review found that the research remains insufficient to establish the effectiveness of facial exercises with confidence. Study methods, exercises and outcome measurements varied considerably.
That means face yoga should not currently be presented as a proven alternative to:
* Evidence-based skincare
* Daily sun protection
* Professionally assessed treatments
* Surgical lifting procedures
Gentle facial massage or exercise may feel relaxing, and there is nothing wrong with enjoying it as part of self-care. Just be cautious of programmes promising permanent lifting, dramatic sculpting or wrinkle removal.
Avoid forceful movements that cause pain or persistent irritation. Following a recent injectable, skin or surgical treatment, follow the aftercare provided by your practitioner before massaging the area.
Enjoy the ritual if you like it, but keep the claims realistic.

RF FACIALS: CONTROL MATTERS
A non-invasive RF facial uses a smooth surface applicator to deliver controlled radiofrequency energy. It is different from RF microneedling because no needles enter the skin.
During treatment, the area should feel warm, but more heat is not automatically better. The device, treatment area, skin characteristics, settings and your comfort all matter.
Your consultation includes:
* Discussing the changes you would realistically like to see
* Assessing your skin and proposed treatment area
* Reviewing your medical history and suitability
* Considering recent treatments and current skincare
* Explaining the expected sensation and possible temporary redness
* Discussing treatment intervals, aftercare and alternatives
* Setting realistic expectations
Published research on non-invasive facial RF reports encouraging findings, but devices and study methods vary, and patient-centred evidence remains mixed. That is why treatment should be planned individually rather than promoted as a guaranteed transformation.
Message me to arrange a free, no-pressure consultation or book an RF facial following an appropriate suitability assessment. Individual experiences and results vary.

HYDRATION ISN’T ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL
“Drink eight glasses every day” is often presented as a strict rule, but hydration needs aren’t identical for everybody.
Six to eight cups or glasses is a useful general guide. You may need more when you are:
* Physically active for a prolonged period
* Sweating more than usual
* In hot weather or a warm environment
* Pregnant or breastfeeding
* Unwell or recovering from illness
Water is an excellent everyday choice, but it isn’t the only drink that contributes. Lower-fat milk and lower-sugar drinks, including tea and coffee, also count towards fluid intake.
Practical habits can include drinking regularly, carrying water when active and using pale-yellow urine as a general indication that you are adequately hydrated.
More isn’t automatically better, however. If you have been advised to restrict your fluid intake because of a heart, kidney or other medical condition, follow your individual clinical advice.
NHS guidance confirms that six to eight drinks is a guide rather than a universal target.
