Using gentle Swedish Massage techniques, I aim to relax muscle tension as well as improve blood and lymphatic circulation through mild pressure on the main muscle groups of the body.
So I’ve had a hurty knee for a bit now and the physio identified an incorrect movement in my left side which is leading to an over load in my right side. This is not helped by a heel raise movement issue which I correct on loads of people but hadn’t noticed that I’m doing myself. This affects my squats and ultimately my running. So I’ve taken all load out, have cut the reps and am working on purely on the movement pattern. I’ve realised how I’ve been developing my lower legs differently which has caused a bad knee. Onwards and upwards

I’m often asked where I go to get fixed. I have a fairly regular massage as a massage swop with a mate which help the niggles and help to keep me mobile. But when I get hurty niggles which I’m worried will become an injury, is the person I visit. I’ve had a really grumpy knee for a few weeks now so I’ve seen Mark to make sure that I know what going on (knowledge is power) and so that I can get sound advise on the way forward. Mark is also the guy who looks after most of so he must be good to put up with us lot!!!
My insta algorithm is clearly doing something as I seem to be seeing a lot more super skinny folk pushing us to be super skinny and that really scares me. This thought process was also kicked off by seeing talking about, what I saw as a dangerously thin individual. I’m really glad to see sensible PT’s like this trying to put across sensible messages. Being super skinny in your teens and early 20’s might help you feel like you are healthy but actually, unless you give your body what it needs to grow (bones, muscle mass) and repair then you are actually doing some really serious long term damage.

A week in from UTMB and I feel able to reflect back on the race. It was definitely a race of two half’s. I can never get out to do any kind of altitide acclimatisation but this year I didn’t even get up on the Mont Blanc cable car and i really felt it. Nausea hit early and I made the call to have a 20 min kip at about 55 miles. Then I backed off the pace, enjoyed the views and made a massive effort to get calories in where I could. It paid off. The last third of the race felt good; almost like I was acclimatising throughout the run. I remembered just how hard the recovery was last time and I just didn’t want to do that to myself. Lots of kit on kit off to make sure that I didn’t get cold especially with the blizzards early on. But my admin is generally good and the extra effort, albeit time consuming, helped me stay on top of my body temps. The welcome at Chamonix was unreal, so emotional. It is such a special race and an amazing adventure I am struggling to believe that it’s over. A big thank you to all the volunteers. The lady who looked us in the eye to make sure we were safe to continue, the guy who clocked I had no crew and volunteered to help out, the souls stood on big big mountains in high winds and blizzards just to keep us safe. You are all hero’s. Of course a massive shout out to without whom I just couldn’t do anything that I do and for keeping the madness going whilst I’m away .

Recovered from .co 14 Peaks. What a race that is. The route is fantastic; challenging but I’m so glad that I ventured up to North Wales to complete it. Great organisation from Apex. Highly recommend this event.

What a weekend. Racing over the 14 peaks between the coast and snowdon including two pretty cheeky scrambles. Thank you for a fantastic event. I don’t think I had fully appreciated that the route was going to take in the hardest route up everything but that’s what makes this course so special. Thank you, as ever to ffirgetting me there. It’s highlighted that I’ve got a lot of work to do before UTMB but hopefully I’ve still got enough time.

Up against the best single scullers in the country, the first born secured 4th in the Inter Regional Finals whilst representing the East. First time ever competing at this level but he held his nerve and left it all out there. Boy done good.

What a day! Beautiful sunshine, a fast course, fabulous crew and brilliant organisation. Thank you for a really really great race. It’s easy to take good organisation for granted but I’ve done races which aren’t like this and they aren’t fun. The RD has totally nailed it; looking after runners and volunteers superbly. Highly recommend this race and this race company.
I had forgotten just how hard this distance is. It was so fast. Slightly showing my age as people jogged past me as I felt like I was working seriously hard. But I’m going down fighting so just plugged away at the course and got it done. Some lovely runners out as well. One guy who I had started with over-took me with a gentle push abd a big smile and said ‘well done, you are smashing it’. This is why I love ultras; it’s the people who make it so special. Big thanks to for bringing the team out to see me finish. Ultra running isn’t a spectators sport so I always appreciate it.
