💗 💗 💗 Embrace the good whenever you can

A bit of a personal story, Great Granny turned 90....

My husband's Gran, affectionately known as ‘Great Granny’ due to her mountains of great-grandchildren, turned 90 and had a party.

It was fabulous -, she wore a bright green polka dot dress, she laughed with friends, and her zest for life was infectious.

Her motto? Embrace the good whenever you can.

My favourite story of hers is about her time living in London during WWII.

A proper cockney, born within earshot of the Bow Bells, how did she cope before her evacuation? She embraced the good….

As a girl, to make a night sleeping at the local tube fun, she and her neighbourhood friends would collect bits of shrapnel on the walk to the station.

Once inside the station, they would quickly ditch their mothers and have a competition to decide who had acquired the ‘best’ bit of shrapnel.

The winner then got to decide on the games they played during the night, which usually involved trying to stay awake all night and playing tricks on the grown-ups.

According to Great Granny, it was “lots of fun!”

So this week - here is to being 90 years young, and embracing the good whenever you can.

👉 “Want To Keep The Magic Alive? Never Let Your Man See You Without Make-Up”

My friend sent me an article that leads with this the other day.

What a statement. 😳

The article was from make-up millionaire, Charlotte Tilbury. Inside she states that neither of her husbands has ever seen her without makeup, even in bed. Ever.

Apparently, it keeps the magic alive.

And honestly? After my rage had subsided I thought it was just one of the saddest things I’ve read this year.

What it says about women. What it says about men. What it says about relationships.

Now, I like wearing makeup. I like not wearing makeup.

As I type this I have just gone to get a coffee (shout out to Melbourne Coffee in Lichfield) with my sweaty, post-run, no makeup face on full show.

I saw lots of humans on my little jaunt, including my husband who tagged along for a walk.

All was well.

Wear make-up. Don’t wear makeup, the choice is always yours.

The one thing I know for sure….

👉 Self-worth is not found in the bottom of a tube of mascara. Ever.

We’re taught to be superwoman and manage it all (for you and everyone else)... The truth is we all go through challenging times in our lives, and sometimes things feel rocky. 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️

Fortunately, emotional resilience is something we can grow. And here are my top tips on cultivating emotional resilience…..

👉 Understanding First

This is easier said than done in tough times. Often, when things get challenging, all you want to do is fight your way out of it asap. Yet I often find that taking the time to understand what I’m feeling and why really helps.

👉 Always Growing

Believing you are always evolving, and are able to change is magical. Gently taking action towards a goal helps to bring optimism, build perseverance, and to feel a sense of control which in turn brings less stress.

👉 Humour Connection

Being able to laugh, and enjoying fun, even in crappy times is true medicine in life. Seek it out and use it - as often as possible.

👉 Bank It

When we’re going through a rough patch we’re often reminded that we should practice self-care… but tough times and stress make it hard to practice self-care when we need it the most.

The good news? We can create a “self-care bank” and make deposits to it all the time.

Building up a cushion by exercising, sleeping well, cultivating happy hobbies and practising nourishing skin-care routines.
...Then those extra reserves we create in easier times are there to draw upon when times get tough.

🌿 This will change how you feel (3 natural mood boosters)

Using plants in your personal care routine can change the way you feel.

Especially in the darker, colder months.

Essential oils contain some of the most potent ingredients nature has to offer, and are PACKED with concentrated plant extracts, working with our brains to help emotion, mood, and even heart rate. Crazy!

Here are my top three natural mood boosters.

1. Positive Bergamot 🌿

Feel positive
Boost energy
Increase concentration

Bergamot is a pep talk in plants. Research has found that Bergamot encourages positive feelings, energises, elevates mood, and reduces stress. Get a boost by using Skin Rehab every day and transform dry dull skin.

2. Grounding Lavender 🌿

Stay grounded
Feel balanced
Sleep well

Lavender is the queen of calm, as its flower is filled with linalool, a substance known for its sedative effects on the nervous system, creating that lovely grounding effect on our mood.

Not only is it amazing for your stress levels but it also has some fabulous effects on the skin, with amazing balancing effects it’s the perfect plant for Wild Nectar, our nourishing face oil.

3. Clearing Mint 🌿

Clear mind
Energy booster
Stimulate senses

Feel ready to face the day with mint.

Mint is not toothpaste, menthol is the master for our senses to clear mind and awaken our bodies. Use WúnderPolish in the morning and say hello to healthy, radiant, glowing skin.

How To Stop Being A Perfectionist (And Love Yourself Instead) 💗 💗 💗

So many women expect perfection from themselves in every way. Social media, the news, the world reinforce this idea of perfectionism—especially in ads for women….
..but the only way we could be perfect is if we were robots?! Imperfections are part of what makes life (and you) lovely!

After nearly 40 years on this earth here is how I stopped being a perfectionist (and started loving myself instead)...

💗 Kind to everyone else and horrible to yourself?

I get it! As a perfectionist, easing up on yourself can feel a little scary at first.

If you expect perfection from yourself as a mother, partner, daughter, worker, then allowing yourself to make mistakes and learn from them can make you feel super vulnerable.

If you wear a full face of makeup every day, taking it off to reveal your unique beauty underneath can feel intimidating.

It can feel weird at first, treat yourself how you treat others and be on your own team. After all, if you’re not on your team - who will be?

💗 Set your own rules

When you get down to it, our culture’s demand for perfectionism is pretty ridiculous.

Big businesses reinforce our fears that something is wrong with us and get us to buy their products to fix it.

If you take a step back (enough to see that this is made-up) freedom from perfectionism opens up.

And then YOU get to choose your own rules —which is a whole lot more fun than trying to live up to someone else’s.

Dry Skin: 101 🌱 Five easy, natural tips to help dry skin...

🌱 Lose Foam

Foam (whether made with nasty sulphates or not) is no friend to dry skin. These nasties strip skin of its natural protective oil barrier which is exactly what dry skin doesn’t need! Go for natural oil-based cleansers to keep skin in balance.

🌱 Eat Fat

Eating natural fats is great for dry skin - olive oil, walnuts and avocados are perfect. All packed with skin-boosting omega fatty acids that moisturise skin.

🌱 Encourage Turnover

Dry skin needs exfoliation to encourage healthy skin turnover. The trouble is most exfoliators are too harsh for dry skin. Go for a natural all-in-one that can cleanse, naturally exfoliate and replenish oils.

🌱 Low Heat

When the air is dry, the skin becomes even drier. A humidifier helps to increase the moisture level in the air. Keep central heating on low to avoid extra dryness in the air.

🌱 Nourish

Just like with the rest of our bodies, the best way to improve skin health is to focus on the good stuff. Look for a natural face oil that leaves skin feeling renewed without heaviness. A perfect plant oil for dry skin is Rosehip for hydration and elasticity.

Pressed from rosehip seeds, this antioxidant plant oil is rich in VITAMIN C, boosts collagen production and elasticity, leaving skin feeling smooth and light.
