Sometimes you'll get loose hair at the base of your dreads, especially if they are new. Which can become entangled with other dreadlocks causing pulling and mis-shapen dreadlock sections. With a bit of patience and a crochet hook this can be tidied very nicely! Entangled

People often wander if you can install synthetic dreadlock extensions into short hair. By using a mix of the box braiding method to attach the extensions and elastic thread to secure them I was able to install these double ended locks. There's 19 sections In total and even though my lovely client had shaved sides there was still enough dreads to create decent volume. The client picked a great colour combination of platinum blonde and honey blonde which matched her natural hair colour very well!

These long beauties needed the fluff at the roots tidying up. 4 hours later we have this stunning result!

Finally got round to uploading my recent work! Here I had a repeat customer come for maintenance, their baby dreads started getting loose after using shampoo. A bit a crochet work did the trick!

Had a fantastic time installing these gorgeous double ended dreadlock extensions. I used the box braid method for my clients lovely long hair to allow the colour in the extensions to pop out. Sometimes regular braids can come loose due to the weight of the extensions, box braiding avoids this as it forms a tight plait.

If you want the look of mature dreadlocks straight away, extensions are a good option. We decided not to install regular dreadlocks as the hair was quite short (which can leave the baby dreads sticking out at funny angles) so what we did instead was start the dreadlocks at the scalp and crochet in some synthetic extensions. By doing this the finished look can be achieved whilst the real dreadlocks (natural hair) grows and gains length whilst maturing/locking up before they are visible. The crochet method does take longer to install than the braiding method as there's a lot of crochet work involved to bind them together.However installing the extensions in this way will allow them to stay in for much longer than the regular braiding method which lasts around 6-10 weeks.

What a STUNNING outcome we have here! These knotty beasties took a while to tame, but with time and patience I was able to separate the conjoined dreads, tidy the loose hair and sort out the kinks on these 3 year old beauties. Having this much work done to tidy everything up makes it a much quicker and easier job to keep maintained in the future for both yourself and the loctician. Never lose hope! Dreads can be little buggers when they tangle themselves together making them look or feel a bit gnarly but this shouldn't be a reason to give up

DREADLOCK ENVY! These beautiful 4 month old locks needed a good tidy. I crocheted in all of the loose hair at the roots and the main body of the dreads. My favourite in particular was the large flat fluffy dreadlock in the centre of the before photo. Once tightened up the results show its true beauty, blending in very well with the rest of these thick dreadys. Wish mine looked this good at 4 month old!

Maintaining your own dreadlocks can be tough at times, especially when you cant see whats going on at the back of your head! After a while loose hair can become tangled with other dreadlocks which, overtime can slowly fuse multiple dreads together. When this happens, don't feel defeated! With a bit of water, gentle teasing and good old time and patience these naughty dreadlocks can be tamed without using scissors! Maintaining dreadlocks can be tricky but fear not, I'm here to help!
