6 Things to Know About Lymphatic Drainage & C-Section Scar Therapy 🤍

1. Healing comes FIRST ❤️‍🩹
In the early stages after a C-section, the priority is allowing the incision and surrounding tissues to heal. We don’t work directly over an open or incompletely healed incision.

2. MLD can support postnatal swelling 💧
When appropriate, gentle Manual Lymphatic Drainage can support lymphatic flow and help manage normal fluid retention and swelling after pregnancy and birth.

3. MLD and scar therapy are NOT the same thing 💯
Lymphatic drainage focuses on fluid movement, while scar therapy works with the healed scar and surrounding tissues to improve mobility and address tightness or restriction.

4. Your scar can feel tight, numb or sensitive 🤰
As tissues heal, some women notice pulling, sensitivity, altered sensation or tightness around their C-section scar. Recovery can look different for everyone.

5. Scar work should only begin when it’s appropriate
Hands-on scar techniques should wait until the incision is completely closed and healed, with no scabs, openings or signs of infection, and should follow guidance from the client’s healthcare team. If there are no complications we can start with the scar work 8 weeks after the c- section.

6. A C-section scar can continue changing for MONTHS ✨
Scar maturation is a gradual process. Its colour, texture, sensitivity and mobility can continue to change long after the initial incision has healed. Believe it or not, it takes 2 years for the scar to mature, and even then is not the end of the road.

✨ September, you’ve been a good one… ✨

Back to school, back to routine… although I’m still not quite ready to accept that summer is over! 😂☀️

From the most incredible Mykonos retreat by Dawn McGruer | Business Scaling Strategist where I made some beautiful new friendships and memories, to learning, growing and adding another string to my bow to Connelly Method with my Prenatal & Postnatal Manual Lymphatic Drainage training.

I’ve also been busy behind the scenes preparing for the London Beauty Show, attending very first Lymphoedema Symposium in London, reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting some of the amazing therapists I’ve known through Instagram, and finally putting faces to names with some of the wonderful brands I’ve worked with online.

It’s been a month of learning, connection, new opportunities and lots happening behind the scenes.

And October… well, I think it’s going to be even bigger!

Stay tuned… October, I’m ready for you! Cheers 🥂

6 Things EVERY Tummy Tuck Patient Needs to Know 👀
A tummy tuck can create an incredible transformation but the surgery is only the beginning. Your recovery matters too.

1. Post-op lymphatic drainage is NOT the same as regular MLD 💧
After surgery, the lymphatic pathways and tissues have been affected. Post-op treatment needs to consider your procedure, stage of healing, swelling, incisions and individual recovery. It isn’t simply a standard MLD routine.

2. Your abdomen may feel hard and that can be part of healing ❤️‍🩹
Swelling and tissue changes can make areas of your abdomen feel firm, tight or hard during recovery. Your therapist should know what’s expected at each stage and recognise when something needs medical assessment.

3. Nobody talks enough about fibrosis 👀
Firm or lumpy areas can develop during healing. Fibrosis is one reason why understanding post-operative tissue changes and knowing when and how to work with them is so important.

4. Some people develop raised or keloid scars
Every person scars differently. Genetics, skin characteristics and the individual healing response can all influence how a scar develops.

5. Yes, your scar can improve ✨
Scars naturally mature over time, often becoming softer, flatter and less noticeable. Once the incision is fully healed and scar work is appropriate, specialist techniques may also be used to help with mobility, tightness and surrounding tissue.

6. Recovery takes TIME ⏰
Don’t judge your final result in the first few weeks. Swelling, firmness, tightness and scar appearance can continue changing for months as your body heals.

And remember: post-op recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions and seek medical advice for unexpected or concerning symptoms.

Are you a therapist who wants to learn how to professionally support clients after tummy tucks and other cosmetic procedures?

DON’T YOU DARE BOOK YOUR SURGERY…

…until you’ve budgeted for your post-op recovery.

Because post-op care isn’t a luxury. And it’s certainly not just about saying, “I’m going for a post op lymphatic massage.”

From what I see in my clinic every single day, the right post-op support can make a HUGE difference to the healing process, tissue quality, mobility, swelling, fibrosis, scarring and ultimately the appearance of your result.

Yes, some people get through surgery without professional post-op care.

But the question is: do you want to simply get through recovery, or do you want to support your body properly through it?

And here’s something I tell my clients all the time…
Even if you can only afford 3 post-op appointments, tell me.

I’d rather help you strategically plan those 3 treatments around the stages of your recovery when they’re most useful, rather than having 3 massages immediately after surgery and then nothing when your body may need support the most .

Your surgery budget shouldn’t just include the surgeon, hospital, flights and accommodation.
Budget for the recovery too.

Because the surgery is only the beginning.
The healing is part of the result. 🙌

If you are planing / booking your surgery, make sure you pre book your pre and post op care.
