The Spix's Macaw 💙💙
(Cyanopsitta spixii)
-
-
This beautiful species of bird is native to Brazil and is best known for being in the Rio films 🎥.
-
Unfortunately, it was in recent news that the ICUN was registering this bird as extinct in the wild. This is due to one sighting of the bird in 2000 and then no more sightings until 2016. Another reason is deforestation and limited specialised habitat.
-
-
The Brazilian government are currently working to restore the species to the wild with sufficient breeding birds and restoring their habitat. Let's hope these before birds can be restored along with other organisms 💙💙

The Tiger🐅🐅🐅
(Panthera tigris)
First full face makeup 💋
-
-
-
This beautiful cat species is easily recognisable, as it has dark stripes on orange fur. The tiger is an apex/top predator which usually preys on deers and bovids. The Latin name 'tigris' has an unknown meaning, although some claim the original source was from the Persian language; the meaning in this language for tigris is sharp/pointed. -
-
-
The colouration on each individual is unique and the cost comes with benefits such as camouflage in vegetation. The tiger also has black rounded ears with a white spot, these are known as Ocelli eyespots; This is also seen on butterflies and other organisms. The spot on the body resembles an eye from a different animal and so this deceives any potential predators.
-
-
-
Unfortunately, the tiger comes under the ICUN as endangered. One massive contribution to this is tiger farms in china. They will slaughter tigers for body parts (to be used in traditional medicine) and luxury items such as wine. The way the animal is kept is no where close to humane; 2/3 tigers will be kept in dog or smaller sized kennels. The way of removing their body parts will be done when the animals are still alive and not euthanised. -
Fortunately, there are charities out their such as the , and others helping to educate people about the farms and encouraging these farms to be closed!🙏.

The Monarch Butterfly
(Danaus plexippus)
🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
-
-
This North American butterfly is best known as the pollinator species. It is very distinguishable in the wild with its orange, white and black colouration.
-
-
During its caterpillar and butterfly form, the monarchs have aposematic characteristics which scares off predators. The bright display of contrasting colors are to warn potential predators of their undesirable taste and poisonous characteristics.
-
-
After the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, the toxins shift to different parts of the body. Since predators such as birds attack the wings of the butterfly, having three times the cardiac glycosides (toxin within the body) in the wings , this leaves predators with a very foul taste😱.

The Moorish Idol
(Zanclus cornutus)
🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠
-
-
This marine fish species can be found in tropical/subtropical reefs and lagoons. The name 'moorish idol' is given to the fish by the moors of Africa. This culture believes the fish brings happiness to all.
-
-
The moorish idol is very distinguishable with their bands of black, white and yellow and it's dorsal fin which is made of up to 6-7 spines. The dorsal fin shape is also known as philomantis extension. The diet of this species includes benthic invertebrates (organisms living at the bottom of sediments) , sponges and Coral polyps 🐙. It can often be seen living individually although during their juvenile stage they can form small schools or pairs.

The Indian Peafowl
(Pavo cristatus)
🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
-
-
-
The habitat of the peafowl is within open forests and will feeds on berries, grains but is also know for preying on snakes, lizards, and small rodents.
-
-
-
This large and brightly coloured bird is native to South Asia and currently comes under the ICUN as least concerned 🙏.
The males (peacock) have fan-crested feathers with a long train of tail feathers which bare colourful eyespots. These feathers will raise and quiver during courtship. The tail is involved in sexual selection, which is being more attractive to females or preferring more colourful/attractive males to produce more successful offspring. There is another key feature of the tail for sexual selection which involved the male will losing their tails and regrowing them; this is to impress the female and to prove his manliness 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼.

Makeup look 9.
The blue and yellow Macaw
(Ara ararauna)
-
-
-
This bird is a large South American parrot, which is also known for being a member within neotropical parrots.
The macaw is apart of Aviculture, which is focused on not only the raising and breeding of birds, but also on preserving avian habitat.
-
-
-
These birds have a very distinct appearance with blue-green wings and tail, dark-blue chin, golden under parts, and a green forehead. The blue-and-yellow macaws beak is very powerful and adaptive to the birds lifestyle as it can be used to break nutshells, and for climbing up and hanging from trees.
As for male birds, their colour of plumage signals readiness for breeding. The brighter and bolder the colours, the better the chance of getting a mate. This is also seen in other birds.

Habitat 1 - the wild flowers 🌺🌸🌷🌻
-
Indian blankets ( Gaillardia pulchella) and poppies (Papaveroideae)
-
-
These flowers help native pollinators such as butterflies and bees carry out their work. It is believed there is around 1,600 species of wildflowers across Britain and Ireland.
The poppy produces lots of seeds after flowering, which will germinate to the surrounding soil. The Indian blanket is also a hardy plant which has high drought tolerance and is also favoured by bees 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
