DIY BRUSH CLEANER - ON SPOT, QUICK, NO RINSING! [BRUSHEDUPBEAUTY] 17/03/2021

Sarah's Top Tips!

☢️ dirty, dirty brushes and sponges! ☢️

Got a stubborn makeup brush you just can't get clean? You know the ones, nasty foundation lurking at the bristles at the top of the barrel... You need oil and washing up liquid! Any oil is good, but I would suggest a liquid oil over something like coconut oil. My fav is olive oil, it'll nourish your brush as it breaks down the make up! And my all time fav deep cleaner is good old fairy liquid - the original green one, don't why but it genuinely is better.

1) Pour your oil into a little tub or on to a plate. Massage your brush in the oil using your hand - be gentle! Your brush will serve you longer the more you take care of it.
2) Add a little water on the brush and keep massaging. When the oil on your brush is full of makeup rinse your brush with just warm water. For heavily stained brushes and sponges you might need to repeat this step a few times, and make sure you change your oil if it becomes too mucky.
3) Put some fairy liquid in a tub or just into your hand and start massage your brush in it - you're wanting to break down the oil here, so this can again take a few goes. Fully rinse your brush in warm running water (under a tap) and repeat until all oil is removed. It can feel like you're wasting water, but you do need clean water for clean brushes. Sometimes you'll find after you've let your brushes dry you can still feel the oil in there - you just haven't rinsed enough (the more you do this you'll get used to knowing when all the oil is out). This is why I fully recommend the green fairy liquid washing up liquid, as it's a degreaser.
4) Shape your brush into their normal shape and let them dry for about 24 hours and tada!

If your brush doesn't need such a thorough clean use baby shampoo - it's not a degreaser so it's much more gentle on your brushes. Be kind to them, they'll be kind to you!

If you need an 'on spot' clean, inbetween clients for example, here's a cheeky tutorial on how to make your own and save loads of money! If you don't want to make your own, my fav's are Cinema Secrets and MAC brush cleaners.
