Post-Facial Care: Maximizing Your Results at Home
A professional facial deeply cleanses, exfoliates, and revitalizes your skin — but the benefits don’t stop there. Proper aftercare at home is essential to maintain and enhance your results. Here’s how to take care of your skin after a facial:
1. Keep It Simple
For the first 24–48 hours after a facial, avoid using active ingredients (like retinol, AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C). Stick to gentle, hydrating products to let your skin recover and rebalance.
2. Avoid Makeup (If Possible)
Let your skin breathe and take full advantage of the fresh, clean state a facial provides. If you must wear makeup, opt for light, non-comedogenic products.
3. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
4. Use Sunscreen Religiously
Your skin may be more sensitive to sun exposure after exfoliation. Use a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher, and avoid direct sun exposure for a couple of days if possible.
5. Avoid Heat and Sweat
Skip intense workouts, saunas, hot showers, and steam rooms for 24 hours. Excess heat can irritate the skin post-facial.
6. Don’t Pick or Touch Your Face
If extractions were done, your pores are open and your skin is healing. Touching your face can introduce bacteria and cause breakouts or irritation.
7. Use Clean Towels and Pillowcases
Swap out your pillowcase and use clean, soft towels to avoid transferring bacteria to your freshly treated skin.
