IF YOU open a new shop in West Lothian, there's every chance that retail expert Janet Abernethy will find her way there.
And that's exactly what happened with the opening of the county's newest nail salon.
This time, it's was Janet's daughter who alerted her to the opening of the new shop. Janet writes: "I had the pleasure of speaking with Cham, owner manager of the nail shop NailXinh which opened it’s doors to the public on 10 November.
"Cham arrived in this country twelve years ago from Vietnam and has been slowly building her business here in Livingston for eight years. You may have come across her services, when she and her staff were located at the back of Top Hair just opposite Greggs.
"This new and exciting shop screams class when you walk through the door with plenty of space for up to eight nail technicians to operate and even have room for three spacious foot spas.
"It was actually my daughter who brought this business to my attention during their residence at Top Hair. NailXinh was her 'go to' nail studio, for no other reason that the exquisite service and work that was offered. My daughter works in a kitchen and has six weeks off from that every year, she finds that this salon’s work will last all the way through, indeed, her extensions will begin to grow out before they wear out or break.
"I had been keen to speak with the manager about her new venture and found that it really was necessary to book an appointment in order to do this. “not that you need an appointment for nail or foot treatment,” Cham told me, “but I have been so busy since opening we wouldn’t have time to chat if we don’t set time aside, early morning?”
"So, I dragged myself out of bed to meet with her as the shop opened its doors at 9am on a Saturday morning and was greeted with that beautiful smile that this young lady has, fed coffee and had my nails painted while we chatted. It was the first time in my life I have had my nails painted professionally, what a treat!
"Now, like most ladies, I have to admit to enjoying the comfort of looking down at my hands and seeing perfectly groomed nails, even though the modern trends may not be my choice, every woman likes to have her nails look good, however, as an avid walker the foot spa really did grab my interest.
"On the subject of foot massage Chan becomes extremely animated. You can tell that this is something she completely believes in and she is keen to remind me that Vietnam and Thailand have very close links, therefore the massage methods they use are very similar.
"In her countr,y care of feet is extremely important and they work daily to remove toxins from the body through soaking in sea salt water and massage. The village where Cham was brought up was a three hour journey from the nearest hospital and for this reason it was extremely important to take good care of your health. It is not the first time I have heard Eastern people link good health to healthy feet.
“We often find that older people need more care taken of their feet,” Cham says, “therefore we always make sure that we remove any dead skin and are very keen to catch in-growing toe nails before they become too much of an issue.”
"This is most certainly a treat that I am going to look forward to, having my old gnarly feet pampered back to life. Watch this space for an update on that one."
