West Herts NHS Trust are celebrating International Day of the Midwife today 💜
I will be providing Ear Acupuncture for some lucky Maternity Staff throughout the day 💜
It is sad to read headlines like these and to know that so many women and girls are suffering.
A recent survey by Wellbeing of Women of 3001 girls aged 12-18 found:
🩵97% of girls experienced painful periods
🩵42% said their period pains were severe
🩵20% were left bedbound
🩵36% were missing school due to period pains
🩵43% said their periods left them unable to eat or sleep
🩵92% said they experienced such heavy bleeding that they had to change daily activities
🩵Huge impact on mental health
🩵40% said their symptoms left them feeling unmotivated
🩵39% felt anxious
🩵33% felt depressed
🩵31% felt angry
🩵1 in 10 said their symptoms made them feel like life was not worth living
🩵The charity also reported that too many women and girls had symptoms dismissed by professionals
❤️Research on Acupuncture and Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
❤️Acupuncture was effective in reducing intensity and duration of dysmenorrhea
❤️Acupuncture improved quality of life
❤️The anti-inflammatory effects of acupuncture contribute to its analgesic effect in the treatment of dysmenorrhea
❤️A systemic review of 60 RCTs and a meta analysis of 49 RCTs compared acupuncture with no acupuncture or NSAIDS. Acupuncture was significantly more effective at reducing menstrual pain than no acupuncture or NSAIDS and may reduce pain levels from the 1st treatment
