Nasiolabial folds (NLF) are creases from the wings of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Naturally when we smile, we all have nasiolabial folds, but over time as we age, these deepen and become more prominent, giving the face a tired and sagging appearance.

Different factors contribute to the appearance of nasiolabial folds including musclulature, ligaments, fat pads, skeletal factors and skin quality.

When treating NFL it is imperative to consider the underlying anatomy, particularly that of the facial artery, and to use techniques to lessen the risk of injecting into this.
