INFLUENCE

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Book of Matthew 5:14 NKJV

Reflection

Every child has influence.

They may not have a platform, a title, or thousands of followers, but their words, choices, attitudes, and character affect the people around them.

Influence is not simply about being noticed. It is about what happens to others because of who we are and how we live.

Our children influence their siblings, classmates, friends, teammates, colleagues, and even the adults around them.

A child who includes someone who is being left out is influencing the atmosphere around them.

A teenager who refuses to join friends in mocking someone is influencing the culture of the group.

A young person who admits, “I was wrong,” when everyone else is making excuses is demonstrating the power of integrity.

And when our children choose kindness when others choose cruelty, honesty when dishonesty seems easier, and faithfulness when compromise is more convenient, their lives become a quiet testimony.

We must therefore teach our children not to chase influence simply for the sake of popularity.

Influence is a responsibility.

The question is not only, “Who is influencing my child?” but also, “What kind of influence is my child having on others?”

Our children should understand that influence can be used to build or to destroy, encourage or discourage, lead people towards what is good or normalise what is harmful.

May they never underestimate the impact of small choices.

They may not realise who is watching when they forgive, help, speak up, show respect, pray, or choose what is right. But character has a way of speaking, even when no words are spoken.

May our children become people whose influence leaves others stronger, wiser, more hopeful, and closer to Christ.

🏆 Key Takeaway

Influence is not measured by how many people notice our children, but by the difference their lives make in the people around them. May their influence point others towards what is good, true, and pleasing to God.

🎷Parent Conversation Prompt

Ask your child:

“How do you think your words and actions affect the people around you?”

Then ask, “What kind of influence would you like to have on your friends and the people you meet?”

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Father, thank You for the influence You have entrusted to our children.

Help them understand that their words, choices, attitudes, and character can affect others more than they realise.

Give them wisdom to use their influence well. May they encourage rather than discourage, include rather than exclude, build rather than tear down, and lead by example rather than by pressure.

Protect them from seeking popularity, attention, or approval at the expense of their values. May they never compromise who they are simply to be accepted.

Give them courage to stand for what is right, even when they stand alone. Let their kindness be genuine, their integrity consistent, and their faith visible in the way they live.

And Father, help us as parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors to remember that we too are influencing them every day. May what they see in us reinforce what we teach them.

May our children’s influence never merely make them known. May it make Christ known.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 97 — Friday, September 11, 2026

THE CHARACTER OF GOOD FRIENDSHIP

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Book of Proverbs 17:17

Reflection

Friendship is one of the most powerful influences in our children’s lives.

As they grow, friends will share spaces with them that parents cannot always occupy. They will share their laughter, secrets, struggles, dreams, disappointments, and experiences. This makes the character of the people they choose as friends deeply important.

But good friendship is not simply about having someone to have fun with.

Good friendship has character.

A good friend does not have to agree with everything we say or do. A good friend can tell us the truth without humiliating us, celebrate our success without jealousy, respect our boundaries, and stand with us when things are difficult.

For a child, this may look like inviting the classmate who is sitting alone to join a game.

For a teenager, it may mean saying, “I don’t think we should do that,” when friends suggest something they know is wrong, even when they risk being called boring.

It may mean refusing to join friends who are laughing at another child’s appearance, choosing not to forward an embarrassing photo, or speaking up when someone is being bullied.

It also means being the friend we want to have.

When a friend succeeds, our children should learn to say, “Well done!” rather than compete or become jealous. When they disagree, they should learn to talk rather than insult. When they are wrong, they should apologise. And when a friend shares something personal, they should understand that trust should not become gossip.

But we must also teach them that not every friendship is a healthy friendship.

A friend who constantly pressures them, encourages wrongdoing, mocks their faith, ignores their boundaries, manipulates them, or makes them feel they must compromise themselves to belong may not be a friend they should remain closely connected to.

Our children need the wisdom to understand that kindness does not require closeness with everyone.

Jesus modelled friendship with love, truth, compassion, faithfulness, and sacrifice.

May our children choose friends who make it easier—not harder—to become the people God is calling them to be.

And may they themselves become the kind of friends others can safely trust.

🏆 Key Takeaway

Good friendship is built on character, not merely companionship. May our children choose friends who strengthen their faith and character; and become friends who do the same for others.

🎷Parent Conversation Prompt

Ask your child:

“What makes someone a really good friend, and what should you do if a friend pressures you to do something you know is wrong?”

Listen without immediately correcting. Let the conversation help you understand how they view friendship, peer pressure, loyalty, and boundaries.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Father, thank You for the gift of friendship.

Surround our children with friends who are kind, honest, trustworthy, respectful, and courageous.

Give them discernment to recognise healthy friendships and wisdom to recognise relationships that may lead them away from You or compromise their values.

Protect them from peer pressure, jealousy, manipulation, bullying, unhealthy competition, and the fear of being left out.

Teach them to be good friends themselves; to listen, encourage, celebrate others, apologise when wrong, keep confidence, and speak truth with love.

Give them courage to say “no” when necessary, even when saying no may cost them acceptance.

When a friendship becomes unhealthy, give them wisdom to establish boundaries and courage to step away when necessary.

Give us as parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors wisdom to guide them without controlling every friendship. Teach us to equip them with discernment so they can recognise good character for themselves.

May our children find friends who sharpen them, strengthen them, and point them toward Christ; and may they become that kind of friend to others.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 96 — Thursday, September 10, 2026

THE STRENGTH TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK

“But whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn the other to him also.”
Book of Matthew 5:39 NKJV

Reflection

“Turn the other cheek” is one of Jesus’ teachings that can be difficult to understand, and even more difficult to practise.

It does not mean teaching our children to accept abuse, tolerate injustice, or remain in harmful situations. Jesus was teaching a different kind of strength: the strength to refuse revenge and not allow another person’s wrongdoing to determine our character.

Our children will be hurt. Someone may insult them, exclude them, betray them, mock them, or treat them unfairly. Their natural response may be to retaliate.

But we must teach them that not every offence deserves a reaction.

Sometimes turning the other cheek looks very practical in a child’s everyday life.

When a sibling takes their favourite toy, they do not sn**ch it back or deliberately break their sibling’s toy. They can speak up, share, or ask an adult for help.

When a classmate says something unkind about them, they do not insult them back. They can calmly say, “That wasn’t kind,” walk away, and refuse to join the cycle of hurtful words.

When someone is left out of a game, our child can choose to include them rather than saying, “You didn’t include me yesterday, so I won’t include you.”

When another child receives the prize, praise, or opportunity they hoped for, they can learn to say, “Congratulations,” even when they are disappointed.

When a friend apologises after hurting them, they can forgive rather than repeatedly reminding that friend of the offence.

These may seem like small moments, but they are opportunities to practise the character of Christ.

Turning the other cheek is choosing self-control over retaliation. It is refusing to repay humiliation with humiliation and hatred with hatred. It is having the courage to walk away rather than allowing anger to take control.

It also means teaching them the difference between forgiveness and permission.

They can forgive someone without returning to an unsafe relationship. They can show grace while maintaining boundaries. They can speak the truth without hatred. They can seek justice without becoming consumed by revenge.

If someone repeatedly bullies, threatens, touches, or harms them, turning the other cheek does not mean remaining silent. They should tell a trusted adult, seek protection, and allow appropriate authority to address the situation.

Sometimes the most powerful response is restraint. Sometimes the wisest response is speaking up.

In a world that often celebrates “getting even,” Christ calls our children to something higher: overcoming evil without becoming evil themselves.

May they learn that strength is not always found in fighting back. Sometimes strength is found in knowing when to remain silent, when to walk away, when to speak truth, when to seek help, and when to leave justice in God’s hands.

🏆 Key Takeaway

Turning the other cheek is not weakness or submission to abuse. It is the Christlike strength to reject revenge, practise self-control, forgive wisely, maintain healthy boundaries, and refuse to let someone else’s wrongdoing reshape our character.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Father, teach our children the strength that comes from You.

When a sibling annoys them, help them respond with patience rather than retaliation. When a friend hurts their feelings, give them wisdom to communicate rather than retaliate. When someone insults them, give them self-control. When they experience disappointment, help them celebrate others without allowing jealousy to take root.

When they are treated unfairly, give them wisdom to know when to speak, when to remain silent, when to walk away, and when to seek appropriate help.

Teach them to forgive without becoming foolish, to show grace without abandoning wisdom, and to love without allowing others to abuse or manipulate them.

Protect them from the desire for revenge. Remove bitterness, hatred, resentment, and the need to prove themselves. Give them hearts that can release offences without carrying them into their future.

Father, help them understand that forgiveness does not erase accountability, and turning the other cheek does not require them to remain where they are being harmed.

Give them courage to establish healthy boundaries and wisdom to recognise unsafe people and situations.

May they learn to respond rather than react; to choose peace where possible, truth where necessary, justice where appropriate, and mercy whenever it reflects Your heart.

Give us as parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors wisdom to model this kind of strength. Help us not to teach our children revenge in the name of strength, but the courage, wisdom, and self-control that come from Christ.

May our children become strong enough not to retaliate, wise enough to protect themselves, humble enough to forgive, and courageous enough to pursue what is right without hatred.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

CROSSROAD DECISIONS

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
Book of Proverbs 3:6 NKJV

Reflection

Life is filled with crossroads.

Some decisions may appear small at first, while others can alter the direction of an entire life. As our children grow, they will stand at crossroads involving friendships, education, relationships, careers, faith, finances, values, and the people they allow to influence them.

At every crossroads, there is a choice—and every choice has a direction.

As parents, we cannot make every decision for our children. There will come a time when they must choose for themselves. What we can give them is something more lasting than instructions: the ability to seek God before they choose.

The world may tell them to follow their feelings, choose what is popular, take the easiest path, or do whatever brings immediate satisfaction. But Scripture teaches us to acknowledge God in all our ways.

Discernment means learning to pause before proceeding.

It means asking: Does this honour God? What kind of person will this decision make me? What are the consequences? Is this wisdom, or merely what I desire right now?

Some doors may look attractive but lead away from God’s purpose. Some paths may appear difficult but lead towards maturity, character, and obedience.

May our children never become so eager to move forward that they forget to ask God for direction.

And when they make mistakes, may they have the humility to recognise them, the courage to turn around, and the wisdom to choose differently.

Our prayer is not that they will never face difficult crossroads. Our prayer is that they will never face them without God.

🏆 Key Takeaway

At every crossroads, may our children learn to seek God before choosing, value wisdom over impulse, and trust His direction even when His path is not the easiest one.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Father, guide our children at every crossroads they encounter.

When they are uncertain, give them wisdom. When they are pressured, give them courage. When emotions are strong, give them self-control. When the wrong path appears attractive, give them discernment to recognise it.

Teach them not to make permanent decisions based on temporary emotions. Help them to consider consequences, seek wise counsel, and listen for Your direction.

Protect them from friendships, relationships, opportunities, and influences that may quietly lead them away from You and from the purpose You have for their lives.

Give them hearts that acknowledge You; not only in their spiritual lives, but in their education, careers, relationships, finances, friendships, and everyday choices.

And when they choose wrongly, Father, let shame never keep them from returning to You. Give them humility to admit their mistakes, grace to learn from them, and courage to get back on the right path.

Give us as parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors wisdom to guide without controlling, advise without imposing, and prepare them to make godly decisions for themselves.

May our children become people of sound judgment, strong character, and deep conviction; people who do not simply ask, “What do I want?” but also, “Lord, what would You have me do?”

May every crossroads become an opportunity for them to grow in wisdom, walk in obedience, and discover more clearly the path You have prepared for them.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 94 — Tuesday, September 8, 2026

SELF-LOVE

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”
Book of Mark 12:31 NIV

Reflection

There is a kind of love our children must learn that is often overlooked; the healthy love and acceptance of themselves.

Jesus said, “Love your neighbour as yourself.” Hidden within this command is an important truth: how we relate to others is connected to how we see ourselves.

Self-love is not pride, selfishness, or placing oneself above others. It is recognising that we are created by God, valuable to Him, and worthy of dignity and care because He says so; not because of appearance, achievements, popularity, possessions, or the opinions of others.

Our children will encounter voices that tell them they are not enough. They may compare their appearance, abilities, families, friendships, achievements, or circumstances with others. If they do not understand their God-given worth, they may begin seeking validation in places that cannot sustain them.

We must teach them that caring for themselves is not selfish. They can rest without guilt, set healthy boundaries, walk away from what is harmful, acknowledge their strengths without arrogance, recognise their weaknesses without shame, and forgive themselves as they learn and grow.

They also need to understand that self-love does not mean accepting every behaviour or refusing correction. We can love who we are while allowing God to transform what needs changing.

May our children learn to look at themselves through the truth of God’s Word rather than through the changing mirror of culture or human approval.

When they know whose they are, they will not have to spend their lives desperately trying to prove their worth.

🏆 Key Takeaway

Teach our children to love and value themselves through God’s eyes; not through the approval of people. Healthy self-love produces dignity, confidence, boundaries, humility, and the capacity to love others well.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Father, thank You for creating our children wonderfully and intentionally. Help them to understand their worth through Your eyes.

Guard their hearts from comparison, insecurity, rejection, and the pressure to become someone they were never created to be. Teach them to appreciate who You have made them to be while remaining humble and teachable.

May they never measure their worth by appearance, possessions, achievements, popularity, relationships, or the opinions of others. Root their identity deeply in You.

Teach them to care for their minds, bodies, emotions, relationships, and spiritual lives wisely. Give them courage to establish healthy boundaries and wisdom to recognise what is harmful.

Where they have made mistakes, teach them to receive correction without believing they are failures. Where they have weaknesses, teach them that weakness does not make them worthless. Give them grace to grow.

Father, give us as parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors the wisdom to affirm our children without feeding pride, to correct them without crushing their spirits, and to love them in ways that help them recognise the love You have for them.

May our children grow into people who know their worth, honour themselves, respect others, and above all, know that they are deeply loved by You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 93 — Monday, September 7, 2026

Rooted in God’s Love

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
1 John 3:1 (NIV)

One of the deepest needs in every child’s heart is to know that they are loved.

Our children may search for acceptance in friendships, achievements, appearance, popularity, relationships, or the approval of others. But human approval can change. People can disappoint. Achievements can fade.

God’s love is different.

His love is not earned by performance, beauty, success, or perfection. He loved us first.

As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the assurance that they are deeply loved, not only by us, but by God. When a child is secure in the love of God, they do not have to spend their lives desperately seeking validation from the world.

My prayer is that our children will know God’s love deeply enough that it becomes the foundation of their identity, the anchor of their confidence, and the source from which they learn to love others.

May they understand that God’s love does not mean He will never correct them. His correction is also an expression of His love. May they learn to receive His discipline, return to Him when they fall, and trust His heart even when they do not understand His ways.

And may we, as parents, reflect that same love; loving our children firmly, faithfully, sacrificially, and without making them feel they must earn our affection.

🏆 A child who knows they are deeply loved by God does not need the world’s approval to know their worth.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving our children with a love that is deeper than words and greater than anything this world can offer.

Lord, root my children deeply in Your love. May they know, not merely with their minds, but in the depths of their hearts; that they are seen, known, valued, and cherished by You.

Protect them from seeking their worth in popularity, appearance, achievement, relationships, possessions, or the approval of others. When people reject them, remind them that they are accepted in Christ. When they fail, remind them that they are still loved. When they succeed, keep them humble and grateful.

Teach them to receive Your correction without running from You and Your grace without taking it for granted.

And Lord, teach us as parents to love them well. Give us wisdom to correct without crushing, discipline without rejecting, and guide without withholding affection. May our homes become places where our children experience a reflection of Your faithful love.

As they grow older and attain heights of success, may they never allow success to become their identity or failure to become their definition.

Thank You, Father, that before our children accomplish anything, they can simply rest in the truth that they are Yours and deeply loved.

May Your love become the foundation from which they live, love, serve, lead, and fulfil their purpose.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Light of the World — A City on a Hill

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Matthew 5:14 (NKJV)

Our children were not created merely to exist in this world; they were created to shine in it.

Jesus calls His followers the light of the world. Light does not struggle to announce its presence. It simply shines and darkness cannot make it invisible.

As I reflect on this Scripture, I am reminded that our children will enter places where their character, choices, gifts, and convictions will speak long before their words do. They may find themselves in schools, workplaces, friendships, communities, and environments where godliness is not always popular.

May they never dim their light simply to fit in.

A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Likewise, when our children walk faithfully with God, their lives should become visible testimonies of what it means to belong to Christ.

But light is not given for itself.

It is given so that others can see.

May their kindness bring hope.
May their integrity inspire trust.
May their courage strengthen others.
May their excellence point people to God.

As parents, we must teach them that influence is a stewardship. The brighter their gifts, opportunities, and platforms become, the more intentionally they must point beyond themselves to the One who gave them those gifts.

🏆 May our children never hide the light God has placed within them, but shine so brightly that their lives lead others toward Christ.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for calling our children to be lights in this world.

Lord, let the light of Christ shine through their character, words, choices, relationships, and actions. May they never compromise their convictions simply to fit in or be accepted.

Give them courage to stand when others bow, wisdom to influence without being corrupted, and humility to remember that their light comes from You.

Where there is darkness, may they carry hope. Where there is confusion, may they reflect truth. Where there is hatred, may they demonstrate love. Where there is discouragement, may their lives bring encouragement.

And Lord, may their success never eclipse their Saviour, and may their influence always bring glory to Your name.

Grant wisdom to parents, guardians, teachers, caregivers, and mentors to nurture the light You have placed within our children. Help us never to dim what You are cultivating in them through fear, comparison, or misplaced expectations.

May our children become like cities set upon hills; visible, steadfast, and impossible to hide; not shining for their own glory, but so that others may see Christ through them.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Day 91 — Saturday, August 29, 2026

Sibling Love — Learning to Love One Another

“Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another.”
Romans 12:10 (NKJV)

One of the first communities our children experience is the family.

Before friendships, workplaces, marriages, and wider society, siblings learn how to share space, attention, possessions, victories, disappointments, and sometimes conflict.

Siblings will not always agree. They may compete, misunderstand one another, or hurt each other with words and actions. But beneath those differences is an opportunity to learn one of the most important lessons of the Christian life: how to love even when loving is not easy.

As parents, we should not only teach our children to live together, but to love one another.

Teach them to celebrate each other’s victories without jealousy, apologise without pride, forgive without keeping records, defend rather than ridicule, and extend kindness even when they disagree.

The home should be one of the first places where our children learn that another person’s success does not diminish theirs.

There is room for everyone to flourish.

And where love is cultivated, siblings can become more than family; they can become one another’s safe place, support system, encouragers, and lifelong friends.

🏆 The sibling bond is one of God’s gifts; may our children learn to protect it with love, honour, forgiveness, and grace.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of family and for the blessing of siblings. Teach my children to love one another deeply and sincerely.

Remove jealousy, rivalry, resentment, bitterness, comparison, and unforgiveness from their hearts. Give them grace to celebrate one another, support one another, forgive quickly, speak kindly, and stand together through life’s seasons.

When disagreements arise, teach them humility to apologise and maturity to forgive. May they never use each other’s weaknesses as weapons, but become protectors of one another’s dignity.

Lord, help us as parents to avoid comparison and favouritism and to nurture an atmosphere where every child knows they are valued, loved, and secure.

May the love between our children become a testimony of Your love; a bond that strengthens rather than competes, protects rather than wounds, and gives rather than takes.

And Father, as they grow and outgrow each phase of their lives, may they learn to celebrate one another’s victories without envy and recognise that another’s rising does not diminish their own.

May they always remember that family is not a competition, but a gift; another’s blessing is not their loss, and another’s rising does not require them to shrink.

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of siblings. May our children grow together in love, honour, grace, and faith, and may the bond between them remain a source of strength to them and a blessing to others throughout their lives.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Clothed by His Care

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.”
Matthew 6:28–29 (NIV)

Children naturally look to their parents for provision. As mothers, we carry many concerns about what our children will need today and what tomorrow may demand of us.

But Jesus invites us to look at something as simple as the flowers.

They do not manufacture their own beauty. They do not worry about tomorrow. They simply grow under the care of the One who planted them.

If God so beautifully clothes the flowers of the field, how much more will He care for our children, whom He created in His own image and entrusted to us?

This does not call us to laziness or irresponsibility. We still work, plan, provide, and prepare. But we do so without allowing anxiety to become our master.

Our children must learn that their security does not ultimately rest in what we can provide, but in the God who faithfully cares for them.

There will be seasons when we have abundance and seasons when resources seem stretched. In both, God remains faithful.

May our children grow knowing that they are seen, valued, provided for, and deeply loved by their Heavenly Father.

🏆 If God clothes the flowers with such beauty, we can trust Him to care for the children He calls His own.

🙏🏽 Prayer for Children & Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your tender and faithful care. Thank You that nothing in Your creation is beneath Your notice, and that You care even more deeply for our children.

Lord, provide for every need of my children. Clothe them, feed them, shelter them, protect them, and surround them with everything necessary for the purposes You have ordained for their lives.

When they face uncertainty, teach them not to live in anxiety about tomorrow. Give them grateful hearts in seasons of plenty and trusting hearts in seasons of little.

Help us as parents to provide faithfully without allowing worry to consume us. Teach us to work diligently while resting our confidence in You.

And Father, as You bless our children with opportunities, achievements, influence, and every good thing, may they never forget the Source of their blessings.

Thank You, Lord, that our children are never forgotten. The God who clothes the flowers, feeds the birds, and sustains creation is more than able to care for those we love.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
