Elix Fragrance

One of the reasons I left a corporate career to build Elix was a belief that creativity has genuine value in our lives. Not because it makes us more productive. Not because we’re good at it. But because creating something with our own hands helps us feel more connected, more present and more alive.

Hearing today’s UCL research on Radio 4 felt like a wonderful validation of that belief. New research from UCL, led by Professor Daisy Fancourt, exploring the impact of arts and cultural engagement on our health.

The findings suggest that people who regularly engage in creative and cultural activities may experience a slower pace of biological ageing. The researchers argue that arts engagement should be recognised as a health-promoting behaviour, alongside exercise. 

It’s a reminder that creativity isn’t a luxury. It is part of what helps us thrive.

When I created Elix Personal Alchemy, I wasn’t simply interested in helping people make a perfume. I wanted to create a rare opportunity to play, explore, learn something new, and connect with others through scent. The link between scent and wellbeing is becoming increasingly well known and is a subject of many podcast discussions.

Again and again, my Personal Alchemy workshop participants tell me that they leave feeling relaxed, uplifted and more present than when they arrived.

Perhaps that isn’t surprising after all.

A simple like coffee house in Mayford Green is transformed into the most beautiful oasis of floral artistry and creativity. It was such a pleasure to chat to customers and talk to them about the mindful joy of perfume blending and discuss many of the natural botanicals I use in my blends. I have a pop up Personalised Perfume Workshop coming up in Esher in the evening of June 15th - but if you can’t make this date, I will be collaborating with the Lily@Myrtle team at their fabulous workshop in Mayford, not fair from Woking. Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Barnes Fragrance Fair yesterday.
From scent stories and blending conversations to all the support from the organisers and volunteers, it was such a lovely atmosphere to be part of. The vision behind the fair created a genuinely thoughtful space for independent fragrance brands, creativity and human connection to flourish.
A beautiful reminder that creativity has a way of bringing people together.

Every blend tells a story… and this one makes me want to jump out the shower, pop on my shorts and sunnies and start hiking along a costal path! But this bespoke order isn’t my scent story — it’s hers. It’s so interesting how it seems to mirror that lovely vital, fresh person from my workshop.
That’s the beauty of personal alchemy, you create what you feel inside.
I keep every bespoke formula on file, so when you fall in love with your blend, I can recreate it exactly — again and again.
(This is her second bespoke fragrance and second workshop - her winter fragrance had a richer woodier character).
If you join either my pop-up in person or online workshops you can experiment and find your scent story. Then when you want another bottle your just send over your blend proportions, and I’ll take care of the rest.

For the Barnes Fragrance Fair this Saturday, I’ve curated some of my favourite luxury blending set combinations, to inspire the kinds of personalised fragrances you can create at home.
Each collection will include several fragrance inspirations to sample, so you can experience the different scent directions possible from every set.
And of course, we’ll also be on hand to help you build your own bespoke blending set from across the wider collection.
To celebrate the fair, there will also be a special event price available on the day, so you can continue your fragrance exploration once you get home.

I am literally beside myself at the prospect of the Barnes Fragrance Fair on 16th May. It’s such an amazing community of creativity and talent. Last year I attended so many of their wonderful talks (I highly recommend you check out this year’s program) and sat in awe over their knowledge and enthusiasm. I finally plucked up the courage to say hello and their kindness and encouragement has led me to being an exhibitor this year!
