Portugal for Rosie’s 30th birthday, Ed’s (and my) sister 🌞

We came straight from Ibiza to Lisbon to celebrate Ed’s sister Rosie turning 30, then escaped into the countryside for a few days with family and some of our favourite people.

At 32 weeks pregnant, I’m definitely being reminded that I can’t quite move at the pace I normally do, although my brain hasn’t entirely got the memo yet.

It was very good timing for a few days of sea, sunshine, long lunches, family, friends and slowing down a little before heading home for the final stretch.

Back in London now, with a very full heart, an increasingly full belly, and lots happening behind the scenes at Star Seed before I step back for maternity leave.

Happy 30th Rosie. Thank you for giving us such a good reason to gather everyone in beautiful Portugal ♥️

The more I’ve learned about skin, the less I’ve wanted to interfere with it.

Training as a holistic facialist really changed the way I treat my own skin. I realised I had spent years doing many of the things we’re all told are simply part of a “good” skincare routine. Cleansing and cleansing again, exfoliating frequently, being slightly terrified of putting oils on my face, always feeling like I should be doing more.

Now I do much less.

I cleanse gently, sometimes only once a day. My inflammatory input is very low at the moment, being pregnant and avoiding alcohol, fried fast foods etc. I exfoliate only when my skin actually needs it. This could be once every 2 weeks on the body and once a month on the face.

I love oils. And probably the biggest change is that I pay much more attention to how my skin feels on any given day.

Skin is incredibly intelligent. It has its own barrier, microbiome and natural processes for protecting and renewing itself. The more I’ve understood that, the more interested I’ve become in supporting those systems rather than constantly trying to correct them.

It’s inevitably shaped the way I formulate for Star Seed too. Concentrated, waterless formulas, elegant textures, and products designed to nourish and support the skin rather than overwhelm it.

My skin is much happier for it. And I think I’ve become much better at actually listening to it.

Sometimes doing less really is the answer. Trust your own skin and its ability to heal.

Which of these four have you stopped doing?

One of the biggest misconceptions about dry skin is that it simply needs more moisturiser.

Often, what dry or sensitised skin is asking for is less disruption of the skin barrier and skin microbiome.

Fewer ingredients, less scrubbing, foaming and stripping. More support for the skin’s own barrier and natural lipid structure.
