I left with record sales and something I wasn't expecting.

A realisation.

Black Culture Market was the first market Umthi ever traded at. Back in 2022, when the brand was brand new and I was just starting out, BCM was where it began. I stood there on that first day overwhelmed by how many Black creators were in that room and how fiercely the community came to support them. People celebrate BCM like a birthday. A girls' day out. A ritual.

I have done almost every event since.

This Saturday my community came through in ways that made me stop and breathe.

They came to stock up. They brought their friends and their families. One son specifically instructed his mum to pick up his product haul of over £150 of hair care body care. They told me about eczema clearing. Their kids stealing the body lotion. The people they have introduced to Umthi. One group came specifically to tell me they had seen my products in a shop they had never heard of and knew immediately something was wrong because they knew I would never have a stockist without telling them first (I will be playing Miss Marple this week). That protectiveness stopped me in my tracks.

And the lady who came to show me her neck and the back of her knee eczema flaring due to heat and because she had run out of the body butter who scolded me and then confidently said "I know it's going to be gone in a few days." You are in the reel. You are the reason.

The Mayor of Lambeth came, posed for a photo with us and tried our body lotion.

He didn't buy anything. But he tried it. 😄

Happy birthday to my beautiful client who treated herself to a Umthi stock-up as her birthday gift to herself. You deserve every drop.

To every single person who came on Saturday - THANK YOU! For the loyalty, the stories, the laughter and the protection of this brand. Umthi started in my kitchen for my family. On Saturday I realised it has become something much bigger than me.

And I am so grateful.
