I queued 45 minutes to get into Westminster Palace on Monday. Felt like a theme park. 😅

But then you walk through St Stephen's Hall and something shifts.

There were multiple receptions that evening. Somali community. Startup founders. So many people of colour in that building. All of us with something to say.

The security guard asked everyone to put their flags away until they reached their own venue.

The flags had to wait until they were in the right room.

Maybe that's something.

Last year I sat on a roundtable with Startup Coalition sharing my experience as a Black female founder. This week they presented their findings at Westminster.

The numbers are hard to read.

Black founders receive 0.24% of VC investment. Black female entrepreneurs - 0.02%.

Half of state-school founders disappear before a single investor is even in the room. Not because they couldn't build something extraordinary. Because the gap between an idea and a first cheque is too wide without a safety net.

I know that gap. I'm living in it.

For a Black woman from Makhanda (Grahamstown) whose standing in Westminster Palace to help change this system?

That is worth celebrating.

The system is under construction. Just like the great hall.

And I intend to be part of building what comes next.

She just had surgery.... But her hair didn't fall out.

I'm always amazed by the stories shared by our Umthi community 💚

This beautiful woman recently underwent surgery, a time when many women experience hair loss, thinning and dry hair. She shared how she watched others go through the same procedure struggle with their hair… yet hers continued to stay strong, healthy and thriving.

Sometimes I still can't believe that I created these products myself. What started as a passion has now become something that’s helping women, families and individuals navigate change naturally.
