The embargo is officially lifted… and I can finally share this! 💚✨
What a way to start Black History Month! Umthi has been named one of 25 Black-founded businesses in the third edition of the Wray Forward Powerbook, by Wray & Nephew UK and Foundervine .
Honestly, I'm still pinching myself.
Umthi began with me trying to save my own hair, using the plants my parents and my gran trusted back home in South Africa. The name means "tree" in Zulu and Xhosa, and every hair product still starts with a brewed tea of six botanicals. It has always been about more than a business. It's about building with purpose, honouring where I come from, and creating something that makes a real difference.
To have that journey recognised this month, alongside such an incredible group of Black entrepreneurs across the UK, means more than I can say.
A huge thank you to Wray & Nephew, Foundervine and the whole Wray Forward community for championing Black entrepreneurship and making space for our businesses and stories to be seen, celebrated and amplified.
And to every one of you who has bought, tried, shared and believed in Umthi: this one is for you too. 💚
