Grown-out blonde, softened and brought back to life by Alexandra, Senior Designer here at the salon.

This client came to us with about an inch of natural regrowth and mid-lengths that had gone a little flat and warm over the summer — that stage every blonde knows, where the colour is not wrong, it just is not doing anything for you anymore. The brief was not to go brighter for the sake of it. It was to rebuild dimension, blend the root so it grows out gracefully instead of dropping off a cliff, and get the shape moving again.

Colour is throughout, which is what we reach for to lift blonde while keeping the hair feeling like hair — vegan, plant-powered where it counts, and it holds a clean creamy tone without brassiness creeping back in three weeks later. The top and hairline were worked through to soften the regrowth, then the mid-lengths and ends cooled into a soft buttery blonde with warmth left underneath, so it still looks lived-in rather than flat.

The cut came in the same appointment — shoulder-grazing with layers through the interior and softer pieces around the face, cut to give the blow dry somewhere to go. Finished with a classic bouncy blow dry, big volume at the root and those outward flicks at the ends. This is the shape that makes the colour read properly: the movement is what shows off the dimension.

Colour, cut and blow dry all in one visit. If you are sitting on grown-out blonde and cannot decide whether to go lighter or go softer, this is usually the answer — better placement and a better shape, not more bleach.
