So grateful for such kind words and for the trust my clients place in me.
For me, every facial is about more than skincare, it’s about understanding your skin and choosing the right techniques to achieve the best possible results.

FACIAL ANATOMY | PART 4 🧠

✨ CORRUGATOR SUPERCILII -the frown muscle

Small muscle. Powerful expression.

The corrugator supercilii is a small, paired facial muscle located deep within the medial eyebrow region.

Its main action is to draw the eyebrows medially and downward, contributing to the vertical lines we commonly see between the brows -the “11 lines”.

But it doesn’t work alone. It forms part of the glabellar muscle complex, working alongside the procerus, depressor supercilii and orbicularis oculi.

We activate this area when we frown, concentrate or squint, and repeated muscular activity can contribute to increasingly visible expression lines over time.

💆‍♀️ Why does this matter in facial massage?

Understanding exactly where a muscle is, how its fibres run and what movement it creates allows us to work with the face more precisely.

Advanced facial massage isn’t simply about the skin it’s about understanding the anatomy beneath our hands. 🤍

**✨ Meet the Frontalis Muscle
The Muscle Behind Forehead Lines**

Did you know that forehead lines are not caused by skin ageing alone?

The **frontalis muscle** is responsible for lifting your eyebrows and expressing emotions such as surprise, curiosity and attention. It works every single day often without us even noticing.

Over time, stress, facial habits and repetitive expressions can leave this muscle in a constant state of tension. As a result, you may notice:
✨ Horizontal forehead lines
✨ Tightness across the forehead
✨ Increased tension around the forehead and temples

Facial massage isn't about stopping your muscles from moving. Instead, it helps restore balanced muscle tension, improves circulation and supports the natural function of the facial tissues.

This is why advanced facial sculpting treatments focus on much more than the skin. By working with the muscles and fascia, we can help the face move, function and age in a healthier, more natural way.

💛 True facial rejuvenation isn't about freezing expressions it's about restoring harmony to the tissues beneath the skin.

Follow this educational series to discover the fascinating anatomy of your face. Next, we'll explore the muscle responsible for the famous **"frown lines"** between the eyebrows.

✨ ZYGOMATICUS MUSCLES -THE MUSCLES BEHIND YOUR SMILE

Did you know that one of the most important muscles involved in your smile may also influence how your face ages?

The zygomaticus muscles (zygomaticus major and zygomaticus minor) extend from the cheekbone towards the corners of the mouth and upper lip. Their primary role is to elevate the corners of the mouth when we smile.

These muscles are active every day whenever we smile, laugh or express positive emotions.

The zygomaticus muscles play an important role in:

✓ Elevating the corners of the mouth

✓ Supporting cheek projection

✓ Contributing to facial expression

✓ Working together with other facial muscles to create a natural smile

As we age, changes occur not only in the skin but also in the muscles, connective tissues and supporting structures of the face.

Changes in muscle tone and tissue support can contribute to:

▫️ Less defined cheek contours

▫️ Changes in facial expression

▫️ Reduced support in the mid-face area

▫️ Alterations in facial balance over time

Understanding facial anatomy helps us better understand why facial ageing is a whole-face process rather than simply a skin concern.

😊 Fun fact:

Every genuine smile activates your zygomaticus major muscle.

WHAT IS THE SMAS LAYER?

When we think about facial ageing, we often focus on wrinkles and skin. But one of the most important structures responsible for facial support lies deeper beneath the surface.

SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) is a thin fibromuscular layer located between the facial fat and facial muscles. It acts as a support network that helps maintain facial contours, firmness and natural facial movement.

As we age, changes occur not only in the skin, but also in the deeper tissues:

▫️ Collagen production slows down
▫️ Facial fat pads gradually shift
▫️ Muscles can become weaker or chronically tense
▫️ The SMAS layer loses some of its natural support

These changes may contribute to:
• Sagging cheeks
• Loss of jawline definition
• Deepening of facial folds
• Reduced facial firmness

This is why modern facial therapies increasingly focus not only on the skin itself, but also on the deeper structures that support it.

Understanding facial anatomy helps us better understand the ageing process and how a holistic approach can help maintain a healthy, refreshed and naturally lifted appearance.

Have you heard of the SMAS layer before? ✨

✨ Facial Massage - More Than Just a Beauty Treatment ✨

Many clients initially come to me looking for a more sculpted facial appearance, reduced puffiness or a natural lifting effect.

What often surprises them most is how relaxing the treatment feels.

We carry tension in our facial muscles every day, especially around the jaw, forehead, neck and shoulders. Over time, this tension can affect not only how we feel, but also how we look.

Facial massage helps to:
✔️ Release muscle tension
✔️ Support lymphatic drainage
✔️ Improve circulation
✔️ Reduce puffiness
✔️ Promote a healthy, natural glow
✔️ Encourage deep relaxation

Taking time for yourself isn't a luxury, it's an important part of looking after your wellbeing.

Thank you to all my wonderful clients who trust me with their self-care journey. 💛
