What does this beautiful willow have to do with acne? 🧐

Salicin, is a natural extract gained from the bark of the willow species, which is where the powerful acne-fighting ingredient that you’re likely to be more familiar with, salicylic acid comes from. This popular and effective beta-hydroxy acid is extensively used in skincare for its exfoliative and keratolytic properties in the treatment of acne.

Willow bark extract has been shown to produce similar results to synthetic salicylic acid, but without some of the drawbacks.

Even in small concentrations of 0.5% to 1% salicylic acid can cause irritation, redness, flaking and dryness. Those with sensitive skin may actually experience more frequent break outs due to this acid. On the other hand, salicin in the willow bark extract is a much gentler version of salicylic acid, with studies showing that even at levels as high 100% which is the equivalent to 10% of salicylic acid, is non-irritating.

And what are the other benefits of willow bark extract?

⭐️It provides a gentle exfoliation to reveal more radiant, healthy-looking skin.
⭐️Because of salicins anti-inflammatory properties, it also helps alleviate redness and irritation.
⭐️It is rich in tannins, which are natural astringents that helps to keep the skin tight and makes the pores appear smaller.

⭐️Reduces signs of aging: thanks to the polyphenols and flavonoids (powerful antioxidants) that help out skin fight against radical damage, this ingredient can also reduce signs of aging and eliminate wrinkles.
