98% of you asked for the details, so here’s what the fabulous team at Michael Van Clarke | Hair Salon Marylebone London | Dry Haircut did
I’m now over 80% grey, with around 8 weeks of regrowth. I don’t want to cover my grey completely, we’re working with it and blending it into my existing colour.
Here’s exactly what Berni does:
Hairline: Baby highlights where I have the most grey, using a mild lightener to soften and blend the regrowth.
Roots: Wella Illumina 7/ + 6/16 with a low developer, creating dimension rather than one solid block of colour. Approx. 25 minutes.
Toner: Once washed out, a semi-permanent toner at approximately level 9 with a cool undertone brings everything together. Approx. 7–12 minutes.
Cut: Mitchell then dry-cuts my hair, removing weight and creating the shape and movement around my face that I was missing.
From start to finished blow-dry: around three hours.
One VERY important caveat: I’m sharing my formula because you asked, not as a recipe for your own hair. Grey percentage, natural pigment, previous colour, condition and porosity all affect the result. The same formula can behave very differently on someone else’s hair, so your colourist should formulate specifically for you.
And this is something I talk about a lot with my style with anita members: hair colour is colour analysis too. Too light, dark, warm or cool can fight with your natural colouring just as clothes can.
I personally review every member’s colour submission, including their hair colour.
❤️ Style With Anita Early Bird opens 28 August. Comment SWA and I’ll send you the details.

Born out of a desire to elevate the salon experience, the restaurant wasn’t about moving away from hairdressing, it was about creating two businesses that complement and strengthen each other.

Can creating a better experience actually grow your salon business?
For Ken Picton, the answer has been yes.
Ken explains how adding hospitality to the salon has increased spend, attracted customers beyond their appointments and transformed the business into a destination.
It’s a fascinating example of what can happen when you stop thinking purely as a salon and start thinking as a lifestyle brand.
