A matted mess… and completely avoidable 👀

One of the biggest mistakes I see with hair extensions is clients being too scared to brush near the roots.

But avoiding the bonds doesn’t protect your extensions — it can actually create the problem you’re trying to prevent.

Your natural hair sheds every day. With extensions, some of that shed hair stays trapped around the attachments until maintenance. If you’re not brushing and separating the roots regularly, those loose hairs can start tangling together and eventually mat.

From DAY ONE: start at the ends, hold the roots with your free hand and gently work your way upwards. Then brush smoothly from roots to ends.

I’m using a Tangle Teezer here, but a good mixed boar-bristle extension brush works beautifully too.

Don’t start brushing properly once it’s already matted. Prevention is much easier than fixing it. ❤️

Proof your natural hair can grow while wearing extensions 🙌🏼

These extensions aren’t for length—they’re there to give fine hair more volume and bounce.

Once the grown-out bonds were refitted closer to the scalp, the extensions became shorter than her natural hair. That’s how much her own hair had grown.

As she wanted to keep her shorter style, I trimmed the natural hair back to meet the extensions, reshaped the whole cut and added more layers.

This is Fusion Bonding — one of the most customisable hair extension methods I offer.

There are no pre-made K-tips.

I work directly with loose hair, creating each keratin bond during the fitting. That means I can completely customise the amount of hair and bond size to suit the natural hair it’s being attached to.

I have long-term clients with fine hair who choose Fusion Bonding again and again because they love how lightweight and comfortable it feels, as well as the gentle removal.

But does that mean it’s right for everyone?

Absolutely not.

Aftercare matters. Those bonds need to be dried properly after washing, swimming or the gym — and your lifestyle plays a big part in choosing the right extension method too.

That’s why I don’t choose your method from a photo or a trend.
