Why is my skin worse after my sunny holiday? That’s quite common. Skin can look worse after a sunny holiday even if it seemed better while you were away.

Dehydration

Solution: Increase your water intake whilst you're away, especially on days that you'll be drinking. Starting the day with an electrolyte drink can also be super beneficial!

Pigmentation

Solution: Be consistent with your SPF, especially on holiday. After your holiday, introduce brightening ingredients such as vitamin C or azelaic acid to help support a more even skin tone. Avoid over-exfoliating, as this can make pigmentation worse.

More Breakouts

Solution: Keep your routine simple and consistent. After your day by the pool- double cleanse to remove sweat, SPF and build-up, and use a hydrating moisturiser with ceramides. Keep the actives minimum, if at all, whilst you're away.

Disrupted Skin Barrier

Solution: Focus on repairing and replenishing your skin barrier. Use a gentle, non-stripping cleanser and a moisturiser containing ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin or hyaluronic acid. Take a break from strong actives and exfoliants until your skin feels comfortable again.

Textured/Dry Skin

Solution: Don't be tempted to scrub away the texture! When you're back from your holiday, docus on hydration first with a gentle cleanser and nourishing, barrier repair moisturiser. Once your skin barrier has recovered, a gentle chemical exfoliant 1–2 times a week can help smooth away dead skin cells and improve texture.

Fresh 💋

'Luck can only take you so far'. Yes, genetically we are all blessed in different ways (I wish I had those genes where I could eat a Matilda style cake and not live with the consequences) but genetics can only play a role in how our skin behaves. The environment and lifestyle are also key contributing factors, and very easily can show up on our skin! We need to protect our skin at all costs- because at the end of the day, it's the largest organ in our body!

Regular skin treaments, nourishment internally (water, gut health, supplements) and a good skincare plan can make all the difference!
