Not Every Nappy Rash Is Just Irritation 🦋
Nappy rash is commonly caused by prolonged exposure to moisture, friction, urine, and stool. It usually appears as a dull pink or red irritation on the skin directly touching the diaper.
A yeast infection, most often caused by Candida, looks different. Dermatologists typically identify it by its bright red shiny appearance, small raised “satellite” spots, and redness that extends deep into the skin folds.
Skin folds are naturally warm and moist, making them an ideal environment for yeast overgrowth.
Signs more consistent with a yeast rash include:
- Bright inflamed redness
- Raised pimple-like bumps
- Sharp defined borders
- Rash within skin creases
- Persistent irritation despite barrier cream
