Tea cultivation in Sri Lanka began in the 1860s after a devastating coffee crop disease led planters to search for alternative crops. James Taylor, a Scottish planter, pioneered the tea industry in 1867 on a small estate in Kandy, marking the start of what would become a thriving industry.
Ceylon tea quickly gained a global reputation for quality and flavor, eventually turning Sri Lanka into one of the world’s largest tea producers. ☕️
