Breast implants don’t automatically “expire” at 10 years.

It’s a common misconception that implants need to be routinely removed or replaced once they reach the 10-year mark, but that isn’t necessarily the case. If your implants are intact, you’re happy with your result and there’s no clinical reason for revision, replacement may not be needed simply because a certain number of years has passed.

There are, however, reasons we may recommend further assessment or surgery, including changes to the breast, implant rupture, capsular contracture, discomfort, changes in position or simply wanting a different size or shape. The important thing is ongoing monitoring and knowing when a change needs investigating.
