Rose water is made from the delicate petals of the Rosa Damascena flower.

Rosa Damascena is a type of rose bush that belongs to the Rosaceae family. While it grows in a few specific regions worldwide, the most genetically superior strain is found in Bulgaria’s Rose Valley. This unique location, surrounded by mountains, benefits from fertile, slightly acidic soil (pH 6–7), underground thermal springs, and extreme weather conditions, all contributing to the exceptional quality of the blooms.

This rose blooms only once a year, producing medium-sized, double-petaled pink flowers with an intense fragrance.

At the end of May, the blossoms are hand-picked early in the morning, just after the dew forms and before sunrise, when the essential oil content in the petals is at its peak. The freshly harvested flowers are then transported immediately for distillation to prevent oxidation and preserve their delicate aroma.

The steam distillation process is a time-consuming and delicate method in which a mixture of rose oil and water v***r rises, then cools and condenses. The resulting aromatic rose water is stored in a cool, dark place at a constant temperature to maintain its potency and freshness.

The rose water is bottled throughout the year, on demand, in airtight, light-blocking glass bottles. Le Mont Botanique’s Bulgarian Rose Water is packaged in special white-jade glass, chosen for its ability to resist light degradation and preserve quality.

All About the Origin of Rosehip Seed Oil 🌺

Rosehip oil is made from the seeds of the rosehips, the fruit of the Rosa Canina flower.

Rosa Canina is a species of wild rose from the Rosaceae family, found predominantly in Europe. It thrives particularly well in the mountains of Bulgaria, where the rich soil and extreme climate provide ideal growing conditions.

It blooms from May to July. The flowers have five delicate, pale pink petals and are usually unscented, attracting many pollinators, especially bees.

At the base of the petals, the rosehips begin to form. These are the fruit of the plant. When the petals fall, the hips are revealed. They grow throughout the summer, turning from green to red, oval-shaped fruit.

The rosehips are ready to harvest in autumn when they are bright red and slightly soft to the touch but still firm — ideally just after the first frost. At full maturity, rosehips contain 20 to 40 times more vitamin C than oranges.

Once harvested, the seeds are separated from the pulp, cleaned, dried, and stored in a cool, dark place.

Rosehip oil is then extracted by cold-pressing the seeds of the Rosa Canina fruit to preserve its valuable nutrients.
