My son had the first seizure when he was 2 months old in the hospital.
He had a scan which revealed a rupture in the brain.
I didn't know that our strory with seizure began.

What we need to know about cerebral palsy.

✨ Why Are Seizures So Common in Children With Cerebral Palsy? ✨
(And what every parent should know 💛)

If you’re a parent or caregiver of a child with cerebral palsy, you’re definitely not alone if seizures are part of your daily reality. In fact, nearly 1 in 3 children with CP experience seizures or epilepsy — and understanding why can make a huge difference in how you support them. 💙

Here’s the simple truth 👇

🧠 Cerebral palsy affects the developing brain, often before birth or shortly after. When certain areas of the brain are injured or don’t develop normally — especially the parts responsible for electrical activity — the brain can send mixed signals. Those mixed signals can trigger seizures.

💥 It’s not the child’s fault. It’s not your fault.
It’s simply how the brain reacts to early injury or abnormal development.

Here are the biggest reasons seizures are more common in CP kids:

🔹 Early brain injury can disrupt normal electrical pathways.
🔹 Abnormal brain development increases the chance of misfiring neurons.
🔹 Low oxygen at birth, infections, or strokes can create seizure-prone areas in the brain.
🔹 Children with spastic quadriplegia or more severe CP types have a higher risk because larger parts of the brain may be affected.

But here’s the part that gives hope ✨
With proper medical care, early detection, the right medications, and supportive therapies, many children with CP and seizures live full, joyful, and incredibly strong lives.

💛 If your child has seizures, you’re not alone. You’re doing amazing.

🍼 Feeding Challenges in Children with Cerebral Palsy 💬

Did you know that many children with cerebral palsy struggle with feeding due to muscle control issues? These challenges can affect chewing, swallowing, posture, and even emotional well-being.

💡 Common struggles include:
- Difficulty chewing or swallowing (dysphagia)
- Risk of choking or aspiration
- Long, tiring mealtimes
- Poor nutrition and growth delays
- Sensory aversions to textures or temperatures

👩‍⚕️ Support makes a difference:
With help from speech therapists, dietitians, and occupational therapists, families can explore modified diets, feeding tools, and even tube feeding when needed. It’s not just about nutrition—it’s about dignity, safety, and connection.

📚 Learn more from Cerebral Palsy Guidance—a trusted resource for families and caregivers.

Let’s raise awareness and support families navigating these challenges. 💙
