HYDRATION is something we have to take seriously. For me it's such an easy area of health to manage and through some simple changes you can stay hydrated. It's also not just something you should consider when the sun's shining either.
A number of studies have been done over time linking dehydration to lower physical and mental performance. With respect to mental performance, the effects of dehydration have a negative impact on decision-making and cognitive performance, which could result in a decline in productivity and also could be associated with an increased risk of work-related accidents. Furthermore dehydration could affect visual motor tracking, short-term memory and attention.
All of these side affects could have a negative impact on your working day, whether that be office-based or manual labour.
8 glasses a day is certainly a starting point but that’s very much a "one size fit's all' method". There are a wide variety of factors to consider; Body sizes, shapes, states of wellness and outside influences such as temperature, exertion etc.
Here's some tips to follow:
1. LOOK AT YOUR WEE! It has it's limitations, but it is one of the best methods of monitoring hydration.
2. Take pride in your water bottle. Buy yourself a fancy one! you'll then take care of it. So many on the market. Filter ones, ones that store fruit... Choices are endless.
3. We get a huge amount of our water from the stuff we eat. Therefore eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.
4. Take times during the day to pause and drink. If you are office based this will also encourage you to MOVE MORE.
5. Try not to get thirsty. if you're getting thirsty then its often too late.
6. Limit your caffeine. As a coffee lover I know it's tricky but consider that every sup of coffee is aiding dehydration.
7. Take a pint to bed. That’s a pint of water! Drink a little before bed, throughout the night and see the rest off firs thing.
LONG AND SHORT OF IT is pay attention to your fluid intake. Make a conscious effort to drink more water and you will feel the benefits!

WALKING MEETINGS
Ever sat in a meeting feeling unproductive? Tired? Away with the fairies?
Perhaps a "walking meeting" is the answer. We appreictae that it's not going to be for every meeting but there will be occasions where it is perfect, 1-2-1's for example.
Why bother? Well it's not just a matter of it being good for your physical health... It's also good for your brain! Research led by University of Pittsburgh psychologist Kirk Erickson (published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) showed that the hippocampus (brain's short-term memory center), and spatial memory (the ability to remember patterns) both grew throughout a year-long walking study. This was very significant as the hippocampus tends to shrink as we age and is the part of the brain that Alzheimer's ravages.
Therefore walking meetings could lead to increased awareness, being more productive and an increased ability to solve problems... Amongst many other wellbeing benefits.
We appreciate it might be something different but lets get away from the norm. Try it and see if it works for you, your company and the people within your organisation.
Let us know your thoughts.

Sitting? Tight hips?.. DO THIS!
We always get asked about exercises to complete at your work station. Here's a simple but effective one.
As you can see in the picture. All you have to do is place a foot on the knee and then apply pressure to the inside of the bent leg.
To increase the stretch sit over the top of the knee.
do 3 lots of 20 seconds on each side.
A great exercise to lengthen and open the hips that become short and tight from prolonged periods of sitting.
It's the little changes that add up.

Amazing age of tech! Not so great for our health http://ow.ly/2Vjq300XcNe
The Harm Of What Looking Down At Your Cellphone Does To Your Spine Technology continues to prove both incredibly amazing and outrageously scary. Research shows how bad sitting all day is for your health, yet with the boom of the Internet, many jobs rely on doing just that. Then there are phones. While cellphones used to be as straightforward as making a call on-the...

OPEN UP YOUR UPPER BODY
We all spend far too much time in the flexed position. whether thats sat on a computer (like I am now), driving or just practising poor posture thoughout the day.
Here's a simple stretch to "open up" your chest and shoulders.
- Find something static (and stable) to grab hold of ensuring your hand is placed inline with your shoulder.
- turn your body away from the wall with control
- Hold for 20 seconds and complete 3 times on each side
A very simple stretch but has great benefits. It stetches the shoulders, chest and arms and takes you away from that flexed position that can cause so many postural problems.

MUST READ!!!
"But am I dreaming for too much when I hope that spontaneous tradition in physical culture may one day make a comeback?"
A great article highlighting how the modern world is making some us poor at what we were designed for... MOVEMENT.

What Happened to Movement for Health? Most people of today are disconnected with their bodies. How can we collectively make a difference?
