Mikeysline was founded in 2015 following the tragic deaths of good friends Martin Shaw and Michael (Mikey) Williamson, within 48 hours of each other.

This heart-breaking loss of life only added to the growing number of su***des throughout the Highlands.

Speaking to Martin and Michael’s peers at their wake Mikey’s uncle, Ron Williamson, realised that young people felt they had nowhere to go when struggling with their mental health.

Determined to make a difference Ron, along with other key individuals, founded Mikeysline so others could access the kind of help and support that Mikey had needed.

Striking an immediate chord with many support for the grassroots charity quickly gathered momentum and a candlelit parade, attended by hundreds of people in Inverness, indicated a clear desire for accessible support locally to help prevent further tragic loss.

At Mikeysline our su***de prevention and mental health awareness work is at the core of what we do to break down the stigma associated with seeking support for emotional distress.

It’s ok not to be ok.
No one should suffer in silence.

As a Barber, people often think our job is all about haircuts, fades, and keeping people looking their best.
sometimes, it's about so much more.
Yesterday I recieved a 5-star review from an anonymous client that simply said:
"Thanks for listening."
Those three words meant more than to me than they probably realise.
Mental health affects so many of us, and while I'm not a counsellor or therapist, I am a person who genuinely cares. Sometimes a haircut comes with a chat, a rant about life, a laugh, a cry, or just a safe space to sit for half an hour without judgement.
To whoever left that review, thank you. More importantly I hope our chat helped you to process things enough your review for me was a short sharp reminder of why I love my job, it reminded me that kindness costs nothing, listening matters, and sometimes the most important thing we can do is just simply be there for one another when someone is struggling.
Today please Check in on your colleagues.
Check in on your mates.
Check in on your family.
And remember, you never know what someone is carrying behind their smile.
The haircut may only last a few weeks, but making someone feel heard can stay with them much longer.
If you are struggling today, please reach out to someone, im glad I was there but please remember SSAFA and The Padre can support & turn things round for you! ❤️

Deaf Awareness Week
feels like the perfect time to admit… I’m still on Unit 4 of learning BSL, supposedly tho i now know over 800 signs, which blows me away as yet somehow still feel like I know about 12 of them when put on the spot 😂 or when its time to take the next test, i keep getting muddled up
BUT unlike speaking English… I’m actually quite proud to say my signing is still proper etiquette… because I still can’t swear, i know, shock horror completely unbelievable right, there is a Posh Vix out there, it just doesn't seem right does it lol 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
Honestly though, learning BSL was just one of those i wish i could do things that I’ve just gone an done no reason i dont know anyone deaf or hearing loss, so thankfully i've no real actual reason to learn and it's so far a latent ability, that's challenged my brain, my memory, my facial expressions (which apparently matter A LOT 😅) and made me appreciate communication in a whole new way, i now realise my face gives me away more times than i realise everytime lol
So if you’ve ever thought about learning — do it. Even a few signs can make someone feel seen, included and understood
If you fancy giving BSL a try, i highly reccomend Lingvano, is available on ios and android and also desktop, its a app that is led by deaf teachers in wee lessons, designed to be used 10mins a day altho i warn ya it is fairly addictive
Roughly £14 a month, however they do also have free option available too, for to trial it out i managed the first 2 units free, which covers the basics, ive included the link which i know says ASL, but it does give you the option to change to BSL when you download and start it, now il leave ya be an go off an enjoy the last couple days of me holidays and confidently sign BYE 👋😂
See Ya Monday

Random question...
Can you confidently or are you fluent in sign BSL (British Sign Language)?
Or do you know someone in your sqn/work place who can and confidently know's how too?
I’ve just covered the chapter in haircuts & appearance, and i now want to try this new skill out, or at the very least my understanding of it out, in normal real life conversation, as im aware this course is still posh sign, like learning languages in school, no slang, swears or relaxed gestures sooooo
If you can PLEASE BOOK IN, OR ASK THEM TOO, don't worry i wont take clippers to your head without verbally agreeing what you have asked for, but I'm currently down 420 signs, still hooked, and have now paid for the full subscription.
However still dont actually know anyone who is deaf or anyone i can practice or learn from with so after covering this chapter thought id ask 🤪

Hey all, just wanted to apologise for not being in, and let you all know...
I’m currently battling The Cold of Doom — featuring a sore throat, cough, sniffing & sneezing, dizzy spells and a nose that’s doing its own thing.
In the interest of public health (aka saving you from catching this), I’m taking a short break to recover.
Thank you for your patience — normal service will resume once I’m no longer a walking biohazard 🤍🤧
