Today, the Chancellor delivered the Spring Budget 2024. Amongst the announced measures were a number of key policies that the British Beauty Council has lobbied Government for. These include:

- An increase in the VAT registration threshold from £85,000 to £90,000, taking many businesses out of the tax threshold altogether.
- A commitment to reinstate previous eligibility criteria to qualify as a high net worth or sophisticated investor, enabling more angel investors to fund beauty - a much needed pipeline of growth.
- Updated guidance on tax-deduction for further business development, to encourage training in new areas of business whether employed or self-employed.
- Recognition of cross-industry calls to introduce a VAT Retail Export Scheme for overseas visitors, with a commitment to consider evidence and report back in due course.

The Government also announced:
- An Employee National Insurance tax cut from 10% to 8% and a further 2% for the self-employed.
- The extension of the Recovery Loan Scheme to support SMEs in accessing finance (to be renamed as the ‘Growth Guarantee Scheme’).

31st December 2023- Time for this year Summary;

1. Breast cancer diagnosis- April 2023.
2. Chemotherapy- May-November 2023.
(6 sessions of chemo intravenously
3 anti her2 injections)
3. Mastectomy- October 2023.
(7 out of 24lymph nodes affected by cancer).
4. Ureteral stent exchange- December 2023.
Preparation for radiotherapy and yet another chemotherapy.

The fight continues…However I am grateful to be alive and wishing you blessings, love and positive vibes for 2024!

Dear All,

It has been almost 4months since my last update(17th June 2023), so here it is what has been happening at Beauty Angel and in my life during that time.

The Summary;

1. Thanks to a mighty FB I found Dorota Kaczmarek(two weeks after my post)- the dressmaker who wanted to take over a salon from me. By pure coincidence we have the same first name ( Saint Dorota was clearly collaborating with God here, I prayed for her intercession…).😉

2. Dorota did not like the layout of the shop so we had to change it and return the salon to the original state. The work included; the dilapidation of the internal wall, painting, cleaning and decorating before the Assignment of the Lease could be completed.

3. I had 7 chemo sessions by now( 6 in the form of a drip and 1 in the form of injection-04/10/2023) in the spread of 3 weeks apart. My oncologist reduced the strength of the dose by 20% after 1st session. The side effects lessened but there were always present(diarrhea, constipation UTI, fatigue, leg cramps, blurry vision, dermatitis). I also suffer from deep infiltration of endometriosis and hydronephrosis. However I was lucky enough not to lose my hair, thanks to the use of a cold cap. I am now preparing for mastectomy with delayed reconstruction. The first operation meant to happen in October 2023, the second a year later. Wish me luck!

4. The Assignment of the Lease was completed on 29th September 2023( the last day of me paying rent for the shop) when I gave Dorota Kaczmarek the key to the premises at 7A High Street, Maidenhead, SL6 1JN.

5. I wish Dorota the best of luck in her new venture and I am grateful that I found her when life threw an unexpected curveball at me. Please do not forget the grand opening is happening on Saturday 7th October 2023.

6. Yes, the whole situation made me sad, stressed, confused and dealing with it was not easy in the midst of cancer.

7. Once I came to terms with it, I realised that everything in life has the beginning and the end. Yes, there is no presence of Beauty Angel( after 15 years of service) on Maidenhead’s High Street anymore but it does not mean I can not serve the community in different way.
I do have a few ideas in mind such as; fostering kids, adoption, opening a beauty salon at home, nursing, social care, working in the SPA, becoming a personal trainer but first of all I need to concentrate on my health and recover from cancer. My unwavering faith and patience will get me through this.

My two cats; Dominik( my husband) and Rumpus( the real cat) need me too! They appreciate the time I spend with them, also me cooking and cleaning the house. I enjoy their company too.😊😻😻Cancer made me change my priorities in life. One thing for sure though, I still want to be just like lady Di; “The Queen of people hearts”.

P.S. Apart of buying Miss Dior perfume of course. 😉

It has been an extremely difficult year for me.
Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with breast cancer on 19th April 2023. It came as a total shock! Especially, because there is no history of breast cancer within my family. I was living in denial for about two weeks after the diagnosis but had to come to terms with it eventually. I have decided to do what the doctors ordered; stent insertion to improve the function of my kidneys first, followed by 9 sessions of chemo. At the time of this letter I had received 1st round of chemo and about to have 2nd.
Chemotherapy is vile, there is no question about it. I experienced almost all the side effects; terrible diarrhea, vomiting, headache, stomach cramps, burning sensation of the entire digestive system, shortness of breath, fatigue. I do get tired easily hence have to take frequent breaks, even when doing simple tasks at home. The decision of not going back to work between 1st&2nd round did not come easy. Everyone needs a fanancial support, including me so I had all the intention of going back to work, the moment I felt better. However after the observation of my body I came up with the conclusion that is necessary to focus on myself now, get better, healthier in order to win the battle with cancer.
I do apologise to all my clients who have to go elsewhere for treatments. I do recommend a few places in town though such as: Glam by Em, Natcare Beauty, Oksana Williams Hair& Beauty, Fresh& Fabulous, Silky Brows. I do not charge procentage for recommendations.
Also Dr. Sandhu is still doing injectables( botox, fillers) at Beauty Angel.
Every cancer , no matter the type, has the potential to change someone’s life. For better or for worse depends on the way you have been treated, the level of compassion, love and care you have been receiving.
I am determined to fight and win this battle!
I am also determined to be a voice of those who are not being heard; foreigners, elderly, children and those who are in difficult fanancial situation because of their illness.
Unfortunately I found myself in circumstances where I have to pay for premises which I do not use, until November 2023. The earlier surrender of the lease was not accepted by my landlord. That gives me no choice than appealing to people’s hearts, asking whether there is someone out there who might be interested in taking on a new tenancy agreement and relief me from the burden? The shop will be remarked as soon as we reach agreement about the dilapidation of the internal wall. That will give a room for different trades to walk in.
