When you smile, the upper lip normally lifts and becomes thinner. A small amount of filler can:

* Add vertical height to the upper lip, giving it slightly more tissue to cover the upper teeth.
* Increase the lip’s projection/volume, which can make the upper lip sit a little more forward over the teeth.
